Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum Edition problem

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:43 am

I would like to actually create a thread in the NWN2 forums but I am currently unable to access my hotmail until I and a friend can get together to fix it.
So I'll have to put this here and hope for the best.

So I bought Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum Edition on Steam two days ago and finally decided to start it up.
So it starts up and I decide to create a new character, I go through the ludacris amount of choices and when I finally start the game it freezes on the first loading screen, I cannot tab out, I can't use ctrl+alt+del. No I have to shut the computer off manually.
I booted it up again and tried picking "select character", this time the loading bar managed to move 35% and then it froze like last time.

Anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?
It's a pretty new laptop meant for gaming, not top of the line gaming like Skyrim on highest settings with no bad framerate, but it manages just fine with medium settings on Skyrim with no bad framerate, also manges Vegas on highest with no problems and L4D2 with no problems so it's not a bad laptop.

Check the steam forums, they are usually more active than the official forums for the game, especially during steam sales.

Try the official Steam forums for the game. And verifying game cache through Steam.

Don't risk the Bioware forums. The moderators are some of the worst in the industry.

it seems to work now.
I reduced the screen resolution and turned off shadows, I can no enter the game with a creacter character or a selected character and the framerate is fine now aw well.

The game is pretty badly optimized, so don't be surprised if you run into random framerate drops. I can run Skyrim on very high settings and I still have performance issues with NWN2.

It's entirely possible that your GPU isn't supported by NWN2, it's not uncommon for mobile GPUs.

If you post your specs then we can help you figure out just what your laptop is capable of. :)

Ah, I posted it in another thread a while ago: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1301488-enourmous-framerate-drop/page__p__19592685#entry19592685
