New Armor Smithing Perks

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 6:31 pm

Does anybody know what perks the new armor, & weapon materials are linked to?
Most specifically I mean light stahlrim.
But I'm not sure about any of them really. Or this fancy new lighting tentacle-dragon mask I got.

Dumbest decision ever

Why would Nordic Armor benefit from a perk in the light armor tree ? And why do I have to have EBONY SMITHING to upgrade my light stahlrim .... I hope I have a few points left

Augh. What?
I guess the Nordic, & Chitin make a little sense. I mean, the Nordic's just fancy steel, & Chitin is an elven style.

But Ebony? I guess I know where my next four perks are going.
Thanks though.

Well, in the interest of fairness, Advanced Armor already had Steel Plate under it? So it's always done some heavy armor.

Because there is a quest to up-grade stalhrim to heavy

I think it makes sense in a way. What were they supposed to do, add in new perk levels to an established tree? Sounds like they made the best of what is available rather than causing an untold number of glitches by modifying working code.

How is Nordic being and Advanced Armor a departure from Steel Plate being an Advanced Armor in the light armor side of the skill tree?

You can easily improve your ebony/stahlrim items by using potions and apparel...so it really is a non-issue unless you intewnd to make new items.

Honestly, the only one that bothers me is Ebony/Stahlrim, I sort of expected it'd be under glass. Since, structurally it's pretty similar.
And really, I'm just being whiny.

Did not bother me either because I have an odd obsession with the ebony war axe. However I know a number of people will be a little peeved since what is in my opinion the best looking craftable light armor requires deep investment in heavy armor side perks.

Well you're quite the ray of sunshine, aren't you.

There are lore reasons specific for Starlhim. Have you progressed through the MQ enough to find it prior to your insightful post?

I can't speak to the Nordic, but why would you mind since its a lower lvl perk, available for most to enjoy... rather than the top bracket perks like Dragon or Daedric?

Well thanks for the equally haughty response ! No I haven't but I'm just annoyed that I have to spend 3 perk points to improve a good looking light armor ... By the way how do we learn how to smith stalhrim ?

Advanced Armors is quite far up in the light armor tree and I doubt any heavy armor user would have gone up to there !

Is there anything specific you have to do to be able to craft stalhrim? I mined some stalhrim ore (I have 3 in my inventory) with the ancient pickaxe, and I have the ebony smithing perk but at the forge there's option to craft anything stalhrim.

My reply wasn't rude, a just response to an unwarranted comment.

*snip* By the way how do we learn how to smith stalhrim ?

When you advance in the MQ, you'll overhear conversations in the Skaal Village that lead to a quest.

Advanced Armors is quite far up in the light armor tree and I doubt any heavy armor user would have gone up to there !

Yeah, but if you purchased HF, crafting the buildnig materials alone will get you up there in the smithing category if that's your thing. You can also purchase the armor as well if you lack the appropriate perk needed.

You have to do some of the main quest up till the part you free the skaal village. Eventually the local smith will be taken hostage and completion of that quest will allow you to learn how to smith Stalhrim.

How is Nordic being and Advanced Armor a departure from Steel Plate being an Advanced Armor in the light armor side of the skill tree?

Further, Nordic is upgradeable with quicksilver, which fits with the whole "advanced" gemisch.

I like steel plate, so I made sure to get perks on both sides of the tree.
