A new batch of Pip-boys please....

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 9:53 am

So, according to the weasel who ran the spin for Bethesda claiming the factory can't (or won't) make anymore due to other projects. Well, my solution is quite simple. Why not just contract ANOTHER manufacturer? I mean, they can't be the ONLY one in the world capable of making Pip-boys. I am certain they are NOT. So why don't they just take the plans to another manufacturer and start making a new batch of Pip-boys? They have made a very large amount of money off of the pre-orders of FO4 and the last batch of Pip-boys, I'm sure they have more than enough resources to contract another company to make more and make back the money it will cost to do so with the sales of the next batch of Pip-boys.

Who cares if this is supposed to be a "Limited Edition". The way this batch of Pip-boys has been handled has been disgraceful. Greedy [censored]s buying 10 copies?! 10?! All just so they can resell them on Ebay?! That is absolute [censored]! [censored]! Personally, I hope those greedy [censored] pigs get jumped have the [censored] beaten out of them outside the store as they waddle their fat, gluttonous asses out the door by all the people who just want one for themselves. [censored] greedy pricks. I've been a fan of Fallout since FO1. Most of these jerk-offs don't even play Fallout. They are just greedy turds who want to make easy money. Another batch of Pip-boys (THIS TIME LIMITED TO ONE PER CUSTOMER) will drastically DEVALUE their little monopoly on the Pip-boys and thus rob them of their plans to gouge the loyal Fallout fanbase. And trust me, we have put up with a lot from Bethesda with their buggy, glitchy games that are seemingly released half finished. And now this slap to the face? Bethesda finally releases a real life replica of one of Fallout's most iconic items and they all get snatched up by greedy [censored] holes who just want to re sell them for quadruple their normal retail price?!

No, Bethesda.... no. This is [censored] and it must be remedied. Because if these greedy bastards did it once, they will do it again. A stop must be put to it.

The solution is simple:

#1.) Contract another company to make more Pip-boys. If it costs too much to manufacture it with a copy of the game, then simply have them make JUST the pip-boys and sell them individually.

#2.) The new batch of pip-boys will drastically DEVALUE those held by the greedy [censored]-wads who are planning on scalping people on Ebay.

#3.) It will greatly increase the faith of the fanbase and show that Bethesda actually gives a damn what their players think and want.

#4.) Be sure to issue strict orders to the retailers by telling them "ONLY ONE PER CUSTOMER".

Result: With the pip-boys devalued monetarily, most of the jerks on Ebay will have to cancel their pre-orders as people will simply have to wait for the new batch to get released and pay a more reasonable price as opposed to getting scalped by some [censored] bag, thus freeing up more copies for those who just want one for ourselves to order them now.

A new batch of Pip-boys would solve ALL of these problems and more.

Its not about capacity, the kind of factories that makes the pip-boy have tight schedules, jumping straight from making one product to the next, so by the time Beth order of pip-boy is over, that factory gonna make something else, and unless Beth order something months ago, all other factories are also doing something, sure there is sometimes a option to "cut in line" but that is super expensive and in the end, Beth is a business.

It'd be best to not start a demand out by insulting a person who works for the company you are demanding things from.

They have said they made (and are still producing) more Pip Boy Editions than any Special Edition they have produced before.

To your points:

  1. Contract another company to make more Pip-boys.
There could be a basis to allow a partner company to make the authentic Pip-Boy case 'under license', but that can't be pre-launch.
  2. Devalue the scalper price
The scalpers are playing a dangerous game as they don't actually possess the items they are selling.
I think there will be more available for resale once the game actually launches.
  3. Increase the faith of the fanbase that Bethesda actually gives a damn
Seriously, please don't peddle this kind of entitled claptrap argument
  4. Retailers: "only one per customer".
Most retailers did this, though some were dumb. It's not Bethesda's job to tell them how to run their store.

In short, I don't think there will be any more Pip-Boy Editions, though some will emerge post-launch.

Oh, if I'm going to find something in the world to label 'injustice', the distribution of Pip-Boy Editions probably won't head the list.

There is nothing stopping them from getting into the cue along with all of the other projects. I wasn't saying they "cut to the head of the line" I was saying they contract another manufacturer who CAN fit them in and begin making more Pip-boys. People will wait to buy a pip legitimately to avoid being scalped by some ebay jerk. Because more would be made people who ignore the ebay scalpers and simply wait for more to get released in the store. As a result, most of the scalpers would end up canceling most of the preorders they have thus freeing up more from the original batch to be reserved by those who actually want to play the game and enjoy the pip boy instead of hoarding them to resell at ridiculous mark ups.

Must people constantly go on and on because a limited CE is well limited? Beth doesn't have to keep making batch after batch because some were unlucky. Some need to get over it or svck it up and pay the Bay prices if they want one so bad.

Except clearly there is something stopping them, otherwise Beth wouldn't had gone out publicly and said they couldn't make more, not that I think they want to make more anyway. Plus as other have stated, its ultimately not Beth fault, as it is the retailers that decide how they handle the stock Beth provides them with.

Poll is a bit biased. I thought most places did the only one per customer.

Making more... eh, they've said that this is it, they have other stuff to do, the price on the pip boys will go down once people realize that a piece of plastic isn't worth 300 dollars, it's a free market after all.

Or make their fanbase think that they can demand other stuff. If Bethesda managed to get everyone a pip boy edition, people would be really happy with bethesda and then forget about the whole thing after a month. It's not like Bethesda is struggling with keeping a fanbase anyways.

I think most retailers have that as a rule, but even if they don't, what can Bethesda do? Some retailers started selling skyrim a few days early in 2011 (for some reason), and it's not like Beth could do much about it. Not sure if there even were any sanctions what so ever.

Sure, I would love a pip-boy edition, but I don't need it, and let's face it, if everyone got one it wouldn't be as cool anymore. If everyone who owned Skyrim got an Alduin statue, he wouldn't feel as special (Love you Alduin <3)

I haven't read anywhere that they are making more pip-boys. Actually, all I have seen is "They are all gone" in post after post and article after article.

  1. Contract another company to make more Pip-boys.
There could be a basis to allow a partner company to make the authentic Pip-Boy case 'under license', but that can't be pre-launch.

Then they should contract them to be made POST-launch. No one here said anything about pre-launch. It is unrealistic to expect them to have the numbers needed produced before the launch date. My point is, which you completely missed probably due to a horrific lack of reading comprehension, was that by getting ready to make more and contracting someone who can fit them in the manufacturing schedule they can get have them out sooner post-launch allowing fans to get their hands on a copy, probably even at a lower price since they will just be buying the pip-boy alone with no game bundled with it, and not get gouged for 500-1000 dollars.

  1. Devalue the scalper price
The scalpers are playing a dangerous game as they don't actually possess the items they are selling.
I think there will be more available for resale once the game actually launches.

You think wrong. The scalpers aren't playing anything dangerous because most, if not all, of them have greedily snatched up several copies of the pip-boys and have them pre-ordered and will either have the retailer ship it to the poor person who paid their outrageous prices or get the pip-boy and ship it to them personally. The receiver has to confirm they got the item before payment is issued to the seller. If people don't get their pip-boy, the scalpers don't get paid. The only one's playing a dangerous game are the ones who snatched up all the copies in the store and had people standing behind them in line livid they just got screwed over by some [censored]. Those guys are, more likely than not, going to be attacked by an angry fan who doesn't want to be screwed over by some scalper.

  1. Increase the faith of the fanbase that Bethesda actually gives a damn
Seriously, please don't peddle this kind of entitled claptrap argument

Game developers make their money off of the sales of games, games paid for by us, the players. Without us, they wouldn't have jobs. This has nothing to do with entitlement, this has everything to do with fairness.

  1. Retailers: "only one per customer".
Most retailers did this, though some were dumb. It's not Bethesda's job to tell them how to run their store.

None of the retailers did this. None. The reason? Bethesda didn't give explicit instructions to the retailers and let them have free reign as to how the pip-boys were sold. Whoever told you otherwise lied to you.

And don't even try to pull that righteousness crap here, pal. We are talking about fixing something affecting the fanbase of fallout, not comparing it to world hunger.

Also, methinks you protest too much. I'd wager you are one of those ebay scalpers and a post like this is a threat to your little rip-off scam.

Except it is, because that attitude of "I hold the wallet, so I call the shots" is the very definition of entitlment, yes they are dependent on sales, but it doesn't necessarily need to come from your wallet, and judging by how the poll is going so far, there is clearly folks that pretty much don't give two Damn about Beth "unfairness" and plan to give Beth there money anyway.

Ample time my ass. People were ordering them en mass the next day. I couldn't afford to buy one at the time because I had financial responsibilities to handle. The reason nothing gets done is because of people like you who don't have the balls to speak up and make their voice heard.

You know what would "devalue eBay scalpers"? People not being morons who buy CE's for hundreds of dollars.

(and really, all these "OMG MAKE MOAR!" people are part of the same problem, they just have a little more self-control.... if folks didn't get so damn worked up about CE's, the scalpers wouldn't have a market.)

edit: if you want to work towards a real change in the whole system, why not campaign to get Gamestop/etc to set a corporate "one copy" poilcy. (This is going by yesterday's edition of the topic, where the OP talked about his local shop selling all 10 copies to the scalper who was first in line, with the spineless idiot manager saying "well, there's no policy against it!" in response to complaints.)

To be fair, Bethesda has given us more than enough Fallout stuff to make everyone happy, I mean the Anthology edition looks amazing, is affordable, and not as limited. And the Mini Nuke is pretty iconic as well.

If you really want a cheap pip-boy you could always get one of those 3D printed one, I don't know if they're good, but they're cheaper and if you so desperately need one, it's not a terrible option no? Or you could learn how to make your own. Or just face it, it's over.

Life is full of disappointments, get used to it. Limited editions are limited and I think most people like it that way. Sure it svcks when you miss out, but it also feels so much better when you get one.

And don't pretend like this is for the community, if you had gotten your hands on a pipboy edition you probably wouldn't care if anyone else got one or not. I sure as hell don't give a damn if someone did or didn't get a special edition of Skyrim like I did, and I don't care that I missed out on this one, it's a part of life, there will be more collectors editions for other games, with other cool things in them.

Eh...you do know most retailers allow you to pre order paying no or a very small sum of down payment, so it was still on you.

BS...The initial batch was not the only one...You missed out man, that's the CE gamble...And not to sound like a d'bag but it's not Beths fault you didn't have the $$$. Maybe you should've just saved prior to E3 like my nephew did and ordered and he's 16 lol....So please don't come here blaming everyone else for you're failure.

I bet he didn't expect the poll to swing that way.

Far as I'm concerned limited should mean LIMITED, instead of it's use as an empty title to add more worth to something everyone can buy. If you want one badly enough you'll get one on ebay (from a scalper or from someone who found out their phone doesn't fit post launch).

True, but I for example manage to secure my pip-boy edition in a retail store, paying only the price of a bag of potato chips at the time.

Your* (sorry, it was bothering me).

And I agree, I had money, but I decided to save it for other stuff, which was smart, looking back.

And hasn't there been like three batches? So there has been plenty of chances.
