New Crafting Ability? Scribing?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:42 pm

I've always wondered why you couldn't scribe spells in these games. You come across magical scrolls, but never can make them. In the past you could create magic, but scrolls usually have the most unique spells. So why not have the ability to actually write magical scrolls? Obviously you would need a couple things...rolls of paper, inkwell, feather. You can't simply just write a scroll though, it has to be imbued with a magical essence related to the spell you're writing. So like alchemy or smithing, you need the right materials.

What materials? Rare elemental materials, (element) salts, stuff like that. Though any one scroll should have a rare piece to it, that spawns once every...30-60 days? Maybe two rare pieces for the best spells.

Just think it would add a great twist to crafting without making any character overly powerful because these scrolls for 1.) are not found that easily, and 2.) can't be made very often.

You can make a couple already at the Antronach forge. Still, I like this idea.

And it's on this forum and not a general discussion because I had too many boxes open.

I saw 'Scrying' rather than 'Scribing'.

This idea would work for those who don't want to train Conjuration (therefore use the Atro. Forge) and wanted to make scrolls.

(I'm agreed with Pettrox)

Those are basic spells though that summon Atronach's. I'm talking about all the big spells, and maybe even some unique ones as well.

I've never understood what the purpose of putting rolls of paper into the game as a lootable item was if you can't use enchanting to create a scroll.

I kinda wish Bethesda would stop inserting so much clutter into their games and focus on use and gameplay of the items.

You can, but it's limited to what you can create and it's a very specific place where you have to create them.

Just a thought, but with regard to thinning "clutter" wouldn't that help with "general memory optimizations"?

If I were creating a scroll-making sytem it would function thusly-

- You must know the spell in question. However, you need not have the mana to cast it.
- At an enchanting table, on the item to enchant, select the roll of paper. Then for the enchantment, select the spell you wish to make a scroll of. Then you select an appropriate soul gem (petty=novice spell, grand=master spell, etc.)
- Boom. Scroll.
