So I'm one of the MMO crowed types, have played skyrim and maybe some of the older TES games. Cant remeber, was so long ago. The MMO's I have been playing include.
Priston Tale
Everquest 2
Guild Wars
Rose Online
Wow
Tabula Rasa
Eve Online
Lineage 2
Rising Force Online
Warhammer age of Reconing
Age of Conan
Dungeon & Dragons online
Rift
Star Wars: the Old Republic
Tera
Guild Wars2
Might have forgoten some of them. And ofcourse the one I spent most time in was WOW. Was a great game in vanilla. But quickly dwindeld after the AQ patch and the only thing making me go back and retry it was friends that for some reasons failed to se the glaring problems of the game. Havent toched it since the pre MoP patch went live.
Now many of these games are just Wow clones, some did something right but failed in general others are just garbage and their creators should be hauled out and fusilladed for crimes against humanity.
Now if we look at TESO we will find that it bears resemblense to other games in the genre, that is pretty much inviteble. if we take it from the start the questing method seems to be somewhat like War, Gw2.
You rumage about and find an event like thingie, I personally like this aproch. And it seems like when event is done you can obtain some more of the ordinary quest outlines, like run off and kill their leader hiding in a cave nearby.
Seems to be a fun and good systeam, having thesse public quests and the added corporation that the synergy systeam is encouraging seems like a really good mix.
For the PvP part, we dont know that many details yet. Just that Cyrodil is the place to be. Will more then likly resemble Daoc and War on many points here. We know that Battlegrounds aint in the game at launch atleast. But something they consider adding after launch if enough players want it.
Personally I would prefer to have the option of BG's on weekdays atleast, you usually dont have the time to really enjoy RvR in a limited evnings short sitting, but weekends when time aint as much of a constraint I see the RvR really kicking in. But I will always prefer smaller battels to huge ones, just that mixing it up is nice.
PvP is usually what I enjoy, and I hope they will have some options to cater to my preferd style of playing in smaller even groups where skill is the determinating factor. Like lets say 8vs8. Would be intresting if they added 4vs4 arena also, have that being the only type, and not alowing more then 1 of each class in the group.
Megaserver seem to me actually being a great help for making many difrent kinds of PvP being availble. We wont have the server heros, but all forms of pvp content should have a decent amount of players at all times. So cyrodil wont actually die if they implemented BG's for example.
Also no PvP stat on gear, I love this. Cant even express how glad I am over just this simple fact.
PvE Dungeons, 4 man groups and 2 dificulty levels. Seems alright to me, smaller groups and synergy seems like a fun way to go with it. The trinity will be enforced more then likly, but the diverse syteam means that we wont just see Dragon Knights as the only tanks in game, same for templars and healing. Will be really fun to see what will be availible and what folks will try.
Raids Will most likly be found in the Adventuring zones and maybe in some way or form in cyrodil. Dont care so much about the raiding parts of games, just hope they wont have treadmill raiding in. Will ruin it for me atleast.
One way to handle the fear of gear tiers going haywire is that the bosses just drop crafting gear and funny things. Cant find the word for it but lets say accseoris like ways to change how you charecter looks.
The Guilds (warrior/mage). Here I have some fears. We know kinda that we will go here to pick up skills in one way or another. Unlocking trees or something. What worries me is that they might do this as daily grind quests ala WOW.
If there was a specific questline instead, like an added charecter line, I would more then prefer that. Make sure that it has nice story and all that. Not run of there kill 10 of them colect 40 shiny rock thingies. Then repeat it evryday for 2 months.
For know I will have faith in them handling this right till proven otherwise.
Crafting.
Not so much known yet, we have seen one video that keeps me positive. Crafting will matter in this game, not just be a little minigame that you want to max out to get a little statboost.
Well that covers the basics. That atleast I feel I have seen in other places and can relate to. If done right will work just fine, if just one is handeld badly the game will still be playeble.
We can now move on to the two things I feel will set the game apart from the others.
Combat.
We have already seen active combat in other games. But I feel like if it handels like skyrim + a few skills on hotbars it will feel really nice. Of the MMO's I have played the combat systeam in Tera was the most fun, after having tried that the GW2 syteam just feelt [censored]. Gw2 just dident have the balls to go all the way, and ended up with just a small gimick added to the usual systeam.
Have really high hopes here.
Skills
This will trully be new to me with so many options. In one way it will be harder to balance, but in another it will be harder to exploit just because of the number of availible combinations. If a Cookie cutter build for PvP is found, then there should almost instantly apear a new build just to counter that one.
By adding a large amount of skills accasible by most classes then limit how many you get will pretty much ensure that the Harcore PvPers will balance themselves. As soon as some combination is found, others will just find new ways to counter them. This in and of it selves will most likly have pepole glued to the game for houers.
After having typed all of this I feel like I forgot why I did it to begin with. Well what ever. Just some of my toughts on what we curently know.
