Are you on the PC version? If not, you cannot get mods.

Well at the moment there are not many mods around since the Construction Set hasn't been released yet. Once it is released you will be able to find most mods here on this forum or on tes/skyrim nexus. And about what they do, well read the readme before you download and you'll get a hint what they do :)

But for now we just have to patiently wait for the CS to come out.

Ooh and a awesome tips if your going to download mods, do not download every single mod you see, cause this will most certainly crash or destroy your game. Instead, download one mod at the time and playtest for a while before you try another. Trust me on this one :)

Mods are simply modifications to the original game made by anyone with the skills, which for some types of modding, aren't hard to learn at all. Usually this is done using the construction set or as the new version for Skyrim is being called the "Creation Kit". This is the tool the developers use to make the game. With it, people can change the world, add locations, add NPCs, make new quests and dialogue, make new races to play as and much more. Other mods that are more complex to make include those that change the interface, change the way parts of the game (like combat, for example) work, add new features, etc. and some people also add new models to the game (buildings, plants, creatures etc.). Mods are used to enhance the game, add more to the world, and to fix features which players percieve as unbalanced, broken, not fun enough etc., there is a lot that can be done with modding. They can usually be found on community modding sites like TES Nexus.

Firstly Welcome to the forms. :D

secondly you have come to the right place Sir Chuffles Esquire at your service,

1. Where is the best place to get mods?

Well there are many good places to get mods from, personally i would use either Skyrim Nexus or TESAlliance.

but if i had to choose i would say go for Skyrim Nexus, they have just realeased a mod manger witch will be very important in your modding future.

2. What kinds of mods are available as of right now?

Since Skyrim's Realease there have been quite a few, but since the creation kit hasent been realeased yet there are only simple things to download.

There are texture mods if your pc can handle it, and also if your game is lagging a bit on low settings there is a reduced texture pack available right now.
there also some pure gold ones like being able to use the map like google earth.

3. Which mods are the best?

well i unfortunately can't tell you that, i could tell you what i think the best are for me. when you go on to a mod site they usualy have a top downloaded list, those ones are guaranted to be good. :D

4. Crap i just installed a mod and my game isnt working what do i do?

Trust me This will happen, you can't avoid it. your game usualy crashes because of a mod conflict try disableing the mod and seeing if you can play the game.

there to bits of advice i can give you follow theese and you should be fine.

Don't download two mods that edit the same item like downloading two house mods that edit the same area in the game world.

install mods one at a time, if it don't work try a different mod.

5. i need help with something would you be able to help me?

yes of course i'am always available to help my fellow TES brothers and sisters.

sorry for the long read but hope this helps and once again welcome to the forms. :D

3. Like milions of others, they have believed unconfirmed rumours based on statements by Todd Howard about inquiring with Microsoft and Sony about the possibility of mods on consoles and examining, amongst the team at Bethesda, the possible issues that could arise from them.

ahh yes i had forgotten about that.

To all console readers at the moment it is possible to mod your version of skyrim, but thanks to microsoft and sony this violates their EULA, and maybe some laws as well i can't rember.

Todd did say that he would try and get mods to consoles but it would be very very unlikely that this would happen for skyrim.

also if this did happen there would have to be a huge legal system put in place, because knowing micro and soney they would want ot make money off the mods, and if that happened the modders would have to be paid aswell, not to mention all the extra staff they will have to hire to check evrey single mod to make sure that it is safe for the console and dosne texcede the game's rating like nvde mods, TBH i think it owuld just be to much of hassle but, i wish beth luck in their pursuite in this.

bottem line is that if you wants mods now you will have to bite the bullet and buy a pc capeable to run skyrim which to be fair isnt that exspensive if you know where to look.

im not trying to be a console basher but i don't see any way i could be more clear about the subject.

whoa majour off topic but yeah mods are good m'kay

Not happening. The editors are, by far, more resource intensive than the games they create as they load much more at any given time. That's not me just spewing conjecture, but paraphrasing a developer's post. Creation Kit definitively and categorically will not run on a current gen console.
