Just built this PC and it is above Min specs for this and keep crashing when trying to start right after the Bethesda credits with the "Fallout NV has stopped working" error and try to get te online resource and nothing comes up. Tried searching forums and cannot find solution. Any help would be great. This is a new install. Dxdiag follows.

I could be wrong, but that sounds like a missing master, are you running any mods? If so, posting your load order may give us a clue to the problem.

No mods at all. Brand new install. Tried disable in game community from steam and did no good there either. Just gets to the Bethesda screen and quits. Tried the d3d9.dll fix, and compatibility mode, and run as administator. Still no go. Hope someone out there has a fix or at least they patch this thing to work with windows 7 better and Nvidia cards above specs like in the 400's as that seems to be a catching point with all the threads I have seen. Otherwise I have a $50 coaster on my hands till they do.

Tried Uninstalling/reinstalling everything, including windows 7 and still no go on NV or Fallout 3 even with compatability mode. Gonna try to revert to dx9 and ealier drivers for my card and see if that works. Also are there any patches in the works that address this situation cause I have seen a LOT of them in this and other forums. Only have problems with Fallout, all other games I have tried run great. including Mafia 2 that I got thru steam. Any help would be welcome.

Tried the Multi-Core Fix?:

Find your .ini file in your My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 folder ...it is the configuration settings file named FALLOUT

Open it with notepad and do a CTRL+F to search for the line

bUseThreadedAI=0

.....change it to =1

and below that line add this line

iNumHWThreads=2

Already tried that. Problem is that Fallout 3 will not run either. Did all the fixes for it as well and no go there. Tried using back dated drivers for video card as far back as it would take and still nothing. Probably will have to wait till my new hd gets in and run a duel boot system with XP :(. Thought that only Cryptic put out broken games that take forever to fix.

Make sure your drivers are all up-to-date. From your dxdiag, your sound card and video card drivers are both out-dated. Make sure to update your motherboard drivers too. Check the MB manufacturers website.

Sometimes MB utility software can cause problems with the game. Make sure you arent running overclocking utilities or OSDGamer if you have asus. You seem to have a fair number of background stuff loaded. Have you tried a clean boot?

BTW I have a geforce 470 card with 260.99 drivers. The game works fine for me.

Gonna try clean boot, all the drivers I have are up to date. 266.58 for the card and the latest one that creative has on their site for the sound card I have. Don't have OSD gamer or X-fire as I have seen it causes problems as well. Sound card is an Audigy SE PCI, might upgrade to a PCI_e if I find out it's the card.

Only mobo drivers I have found are bios, which were updated before I loaded windows on my hd, chipset, which i don't have an onbard graphics chipset, and the Via hd audio drivers which I did update just a while ago and now show in my hardware manager when it did'nt before. Been trying all the other games I have installed to se if they run and have got almost all, cept 8. 5 older ones and 3 from Bethesda, Fallout 3, NV, and Oblivion.Gonna try a clean boot tomorrow.

On board video or not, the chipset drivers need to be updated if there is one. Onboard LAN, sata drivers, or even keyabord/mouse drivers (if you have a special key/mouse) also need to be updated.
The issue you have is not uncommon. Hopefully the clean boot sheds some light on the problem.

All drivers now updated with the latest I could find. In clean boot mode with AV shut off and all usb devices except keyboard and mouse removed. Only things showing in task manager are windows related. Still cannot get NV to run. Suggestions?

Do all of your crashes refer to the fault module as StackHash?
Seems the crash handler couldnt find the module that caused the crash. Could be corruption related. Hard drive perhaps not sure.
have you run a scan disk? QUick post since I have to run.

Yea, same every time. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and deleted the folders as well each time. No disc errors after scan and no fragmentation, new hd gonna try and see if I can move things around and make room on my SSD to put the steam folder on it and see if that might do something. Other wise gonna have to wait till my other hd gets here from RMA and create a duel boot with xp on it cause I know it will run on that, just not sure if it's playing nice with the new hardware. Used to have a lower spec pc with a 7800gs, 2 gigs of ram, a 3.0 ghz P4, same sound card and XP sp3 and it ran on that, not good, but at least it ran.

Heres a link to another forum and stackhash problems. Second post down. Alot of people are getting crashes, however the stackkhash thing is more unique.

Realize that even though the clean boot didnt show anything it could still be a piece of utility software or something you installed. The thread from the link above talks about this. Some applications include code modules (dll maybe)
that is injected into the memory space of other applications. This can have unpredictable results. When you reinstalled your OS did you try fallout 3 new vegas with no other applications loaded? Just reinstall (activate, update windows)
then fallout new vegas?

The thread also refers to K-lite codec which is known to cause issues for people.

Can anyone link a list or a site that has a list of sevices that should be running while gaming and the unecessary ones. Widows 7 Home Premium is my OS. Want to see if it might be one of the "Oh so great" new windows services that is screwing me up.

Would like to still have the list, but I am giving up on this. Just completly unistalled my AV cause it would not shut down, just disable and still no difference. Has to be a combination of herdware, software, service, not sitting at the computer the correct way, something, but cannot play anything using that graphics engine, Fallout 3, NV, or Oblivion will NOT run, and all crash at the same point. Right at the Bethesda logo. My pc does not like Bethesda for some reason. Have tried everything I could find. The thred fix, the movie fix, the .dll fix, reistalling, uninstalling reinstalling, reinstalling windws, new drivers for mobo, sound card, and old drivers for video card. Bethesda can byte my pc's shiny metal azz, cause it has to do with their engine not working with something. I can play the original Call of Duty, which was not designed with windows 7 in mind, without running in compatability mode, but I cannot play NV which is supposed to support it. Bethesda better be glad they don't produce cars, they would be outta business with that kinda crap.

Shouldn't be any of the default windows services. Its more likely some third party application or utility you've installed.

I build my own PCs too and I know what a pain in the *** troubleshooting can be ( i once TS'ed an issue for weeks since it was sooo hard to reproduce). Unfortunately PC gaming isnt always for the faint of heart especially if you
build your own system. PS3 and XBOX all have the same hardware and software (unmodded). With PC's there are thousands of different HW software setups. Hundreds of third party applications that people install. This can
bring up a whole slew of issues. Sometimes troubleshooting takes patience and time. Thats just the nature of the beast. Since you built your own system it is up to you to troubleshoot the issue. If you bought a prebuilt like alienware or dell gaming system you might be able to send it to them or contact them.

You want to visit Black Viper's web site for that.

Fired off an e-mail to support. Hopefully will here back from them soon, probably not till Monday though. Funny thing is that only 6 games I have installed out of 42 don't run. 3 of those as stated before are from Bethesda. other 3 are Titan Quest, Darkstar One, and Stubbs the Zombie. And almost all the ones that run run without compatability mode. Murphy's Law svcks when it comes to wanting to do something. Really weird is that it does'nt run even in cleanboot with everything disabled, so there is a conflict with something that's a part of the basic setup. Even after a clean reinstall of windows and nothing else. Also all the other games were installed after NV cause it was the first one cause I REALLY wanted to play it and could'nt

Might as well add another cryptic, arcane advice here:

Some guy on the forum here found that his problem was linked to the energy saving options in the NVidia drivers.
Maybe you can find his post again and give it a try. Can't hurt after all...

Yep, did that a couple of days ago. I know it's gotta be something simple, so simple no one has come across it yet. Pretty much everything in these forums I have tried and it's gotta be something that either as stated before so simple or it's a combination of things and just hav'nt hit the right combo yet.

Ok. Finally got it up and running. Must have been sitting right at my PC this time. I did a reformat and clean install of windows 7 let it update just like before. Installed NV before anything else and it ran. Updated my video, sound card, installed AV, just about everything I had before and it's still running. Took forever for the installs cause I made sure NV played after each one so if needed could remove. Got everything back in and played for 3 hours last night and it ran smooth as glass. Thing is it might have been my keyboard drivers cause I normally would just let it update itself, but I think it was updating only to 32 bit instead of 64. Got the new 64 bit ones from the site, so not sure. BIG THANK YOU everyone for your support and happy gaming to all!!!
