New Rage ati driver has ruined logitech G15 keyboard

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:07 pm

I am no software developer, but i sure do know when something is broken!!

After installing the new RAGE ati drivers for my 6850, my Logitech G15 keyboard no longer works properly.

It still functions as any $10.00 piece of [censored] keyboard would, but the other $80 or so bucks worth cant be used.

1). After install the RAGE display drivers and rebooting, the LCD on the keyboard only displays the G15 logo (a sign that its not correctly working/ installed)

2). When trying to open the Logitech keyboard program it causes the display driver to stop working, and then recovers about 5 seconds later.

- i also get random "display driver has stopped working, and successfully recovered" at random intervals, mainly upon start up when Logitech attempts to load software + drivers for G15

3). I have both, installed the keyboard and graphics card software numerous times only to get the same result.

- i uninstalled ATI's drivers PROPERLY using this guide: (Its old but still very relevant and effective.)

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-xp-radeon-display-drivers/107447-uninstalling-installing-ati-drivers-properly.html

4). I reverted back to the plan old 11.9 ATI drivers, and problem goes away.

5). I don't get any "freezes" after uninstalling all G15 software etc

I wrote a big speech slandering this [censored] console port, especially since i've spent more time trying to get it to work properly than actually playing it (Keeping in mind, that i actually bought this game, instead of downloading it for free like i could and was going to) , but i decided not to include it because i need the help and support of the community to get my gear working properly again.

At the very least, i would like to know if anyone else is having similar problems.

cheers =)

I don't really get the point of going through all that trouble to remove a driver completely with driver cleaner and such. Is there any actual documented proof out there that you can get better performance or more frames after driver cleaning versus not cleaning?

If you just use the standard install manager from ati, it wont uninstall ALL files completely, theres still 400+ files remaining. (a lot of them are in the registry)

View it as; installing video drivers on a clean slate, there should be no issues with the card at all (other than configuration of display settings).

Its mainly to rule out driver error and other errors that may be caused due to file corruption and what not. In this case however, it clearly shows that the error is with ATI's display driver/ software,

The reason why we are having such terrible issues with RAGE at the moment, is because its just a shotty console port. They should of really invested more time in fixing the blatant graphical issues, that are probably all resulted on id's new engine.

My G19 did the same thing. During ATI driver installation it informed me that some parts of keyboard gaming files had stopped working.

And i also have the same problem.

After installing ATI/AMD Rage Performance Driver V1 and V2 my G19 Keyboard and my G930 Headset are not working properly anymore.

And the new AMD/ATI Driver is crashing all the time because of the Logitech Gaming Software.

I cant uninstall Logitech Gaming Software because it is also the drivers for my hardware.

After that crashes i made some researches and found out, that the Logitech Gaming Software only has problems with the Rage drivers.

BF3 Performance drivers install without problems and are stable.

11.9 dirvers install without problems and are stable.

Only Rage drivers make problems.

Does someone has a fix for this ????

Here is a possible solution for you.

The OpenGL driver is just one file, atioglxx.dll.

Uninstall 11.10v2 and reinstall a driver that works with your keyboard (or headset for the other guy) then go here:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4120136&postcount=32

Download that file and put it in your "/steamapps/common/rage" folder.

This will give the new OpenGL driver to RAGE and RAGE only. You will still have the other driver that you choose to install for everything else and that works with the keyboard/headset.

When a new Catalyst driver comes out - like 11.10 FINAL - then remove the atioglxx.dll file from the rage folder or RAGE won't pick up the new driver.

As always, your mileage may vary, may eat babies, etc.

Edit: Should point out that that file is in a .RAR archive. Unarchive it first to get the .dll file.

Yes, if you roll back it will work like it should again.

I wrote on the official AMD/ATI Forums and didnt get any answer.

I wrote on Twitter to CatalystMaker and CatalystCreator and dont get an answer.

This is not a great support from AMD/ATI. ;o(

I added this issue to the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1237649-what-we-need-id-to-patch-in-for-the-pc/, for them to pass on to AMD/ATI...so if they're reading this forum, hopefully someone will mention it to the right people...

I already wrote CatalystMaker and CatalystCreator on Twitter, but didnt get a reponse.

I think this is a driver problem, because all other drivers work without a problem, only Rage drivers does not work without problems.

It would be great if some of you would send them a link to this thread on Twitter. They will only make something if we more than one person.

I am going to try this tonight.

I ate my own dog-food. I uninstalled 11.10v2 Preview and reinstalled 11.9. Then I downloaded this file and put it in my RAGE folder. So, now my other OpenGL apps like Doom 3 work (broken in 11.10v2) and RAGE seems to work perfectly too. I went all the way through the Authority Prison and went back to Wellsprings and everything seems to be working fine with that .dll in the rage folder. It probably WILL make a difference: I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.

Newest AMD drivers + G510 (uses same Software as G15) works just fine here. Must be something on your end.

Anyhow... Why do you post here? Go to Logitech forums or post on game.amd.com.

Edit: OK, I must stand corrected. The Preview 2 driver + Logitech v8.01.120 driver works fine for my G510 keyboard, but seems to have trouble with my new G930 headset. Old Logitech drivers 3.06 (for Keyboards) and 1.00.364b (for G930) works fine, though.
