A New Set of Faction Quests

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:04 pm

As we all know, TES has four traditional factions, A Warriors Guild, A Mage's Guild, and Thieve's Guild and The Dark Brotherhood. In Skyrim, Bethesda added another pair of factions, The Stormcloaks and the Imperials. The main difference when compared to the traditional factions, these factions were conflicting, and you could not join both. Well, why not, for the next TES, or maybe DLC, we could add another series. A Vampire's faction, a Werewolf clan faction, and the Vigilants of Stendarr. I didn't like that in Skyrim you would be forced to be a Werewolf if you want to complete the Companion's questlien. What if I didn't want to be a Werewolf at all? I feel that things like that you should have to seek out by yourself. No one makes you become a vampire, and the Vigilants of Stendarr aren't joinable at all to the extent of my knowledge. So, why not add a whole questline for each of these factions.

Note:You would be able to join only one of these factions, offering even more replayability to Skyrim. Also, while there are no requirements to join each faction, some are more catered to/beneficial for a certain type of character. I.E. Werewolves: Warrior, Vampires: Thief, Vigils: Mage.

Now keep in mind that these aren't set in stone, or exactly how I think they should be, they're just ideas I thought were good. If the names get confusing I will list all the NPCs at the bottom.

The Werewolf Clan faction: You start off by going to the Inn in Falkreath. You ask the Innkeeper if she/he's heard any rumours lately. They tell you that a group of Werewolf hunters(maybe the Silver-hand?) is hiring Sell-Swords to help them on a hunt, they camping out by Lake Illinalta. Upon arriving to the appointed location, you meet a group of 6-8 Werewolf hunters being led by a man named Faldjor, one or two of the other Werewolf hunters might also be named NPCs. If you decide to engage in some optional dialogue you will find out that many of them harbor a personal hatred against Werewolves, as some of them have lost loved ones, etc, to them. When you're ready, Faldjor will offer you the job. The says that they are looking for a notorious Werewolf named Marcus, you're reward is 2,500 Gold, with a high enough speech skill you can demand money up front, if you succeed, Faldjor will give you 500 gold. Upon accepting the job, you will recieve a silver weapon of your choice(sword, mace, dagger, silver-tipped arrows, etc...). You must follow Faldjor and the werewolf hunters on their search for Marcus. Eventually, you find Marcus at the Lumber Mill near Lake Illinalta, eating out the guts of some poor Nord that he just slaughtered. You and the werewolf hunters must then fight Marcus, who is a Level 4 werewolf(I will get to that later) and has quite alot of health, even against Silver. When you and the Wereolf hunters diminish him to about 1/3rd of Health, he will flee. As he is trying to escape, one of the remaining Werewolf Hunters(besides Faldjor, there are only 2 or 3 left alive.) shoots a silver-tipped arrow at Marcus and nails him in the hind-leg, further wounding him. Now you and the rest of the hunters follow a trail of blood left behind that leads you to the Werewolf Den, which is the HQ of the faction. Upon entering, you enter a cinematic sequence where Marcus, who was waiting at the side of the entrances, smacks you with his claw, sending you across the room. You hit a wall, fall down, and everything goes black for a moment. Upon waking up, you notice that the pond in the middle of the cave(where the moonlight shines) has now become filled with the blood of one the corpses of the surviving hunters. As you look left you see Marcus finishing off Faldjor in a very gory manner. Then the werewolf glances at you, and begins to approach. You helplessly look around for a weapon, and manage to pick-up a unique Silver dagger. But it's too late, Marcus grabs your character and begins to burrow his teeth into your shoulder, as you scream in pain, you jam the dagger into the side of his neck. Extremely wounded and near death himself, Marcus backs off in pain. After this sequence, you're character looks on the ground and picks up his silver-weapon. Now you must finish off the wounded werewolf. Maybe Bethesda could add finishing moves for Lycanthropes. Once Marcus is killed, you have contracted Lycanthropy and must claim you're reward from Faldjor's corpse. Upon searching him, you find a letter to his mother about avenging his wife's death(to add depth to his character), A unique Silver-Sword, and 2,500 gold(doing the speech check was a bonus).

After this, you turn around and are approached by a group of several people. Their leader, Lucian, walks up to you, and the dialogue begins. Lucian points out that he is angry at both you, for killing Marcus, and Marcus, who was always troublesome, and disobeyed his orders which resulted in werewolf hunters ascertaining the location of their home. Seeing that you are the last of them, Lucian first wants to kill you, but then notices that you have been bitten and have contracted Lycanthropy. He then remarks about how you must be quite a warrior to be able to slay Marcus, who was one of their strongest members, and how you might be useful to them after all. Throughout most of the questline, one of the Werewolves, Victoria, will harbor a strong hatred against you for killing her brother. You are then initiated into their clan. To recieve petty assignments, you will talk to Tor, who will give you radiant quests that involve killing groups of Vampires and Vigilants of Stendarr(the faction's enemies).

Now, before I go any further, let me explain. I really like the concept of stages in vampirism, so why not in Lycanthropy as well. Stage one will resemble alot to the Animagus from Harry Potter: Prizoner of Azkahban, in that you will be almost completely hairless, have a short snout and your haunches rather straight. Stage two will have a longer snout, the posture will be a bit more bent, and more hair. Stage 3 will be the current Werewolf we have. And Stage 4, which is the Alphamale(and what Lucian is) will be resemble to stage, only that it is slightly larger and is covered in Black fur completely. With each stage, you gain more hitpoints, stamina points, faster stamina regen and base claw damage. The older members of the clan are mostly Stage 3 Lycanthropes and the Novice werewolves are mostly in Stage 2. Similar to the companions.

After a few of these radiant quests you will become a stage 2 Lycanthrope. You start off as stage one and you're first transformation is random but you will be alerted shortly before it happens, in case you need to avoid a bounty and get out of a city. Stage 2 Lycanthropes have voluntary control over their transformation. They can change into and out of Werewolf form. Once you reach stage 2, a novice werewolf, Heimdall, asks you to accompany him and Jurgen(Another novice werewolf) on a hunt for Vigillants of Stendarr throughout Falkreath Hold.

After you complete this task you return to the Den and inform Torig of your success(He assigned this job to Heimdall). You then must do one more Radiant quest for Tor, afterwhich you are approached by Lucian. Lucian complements you on your progress and invites you to accompany him and the stronger (Stage 3) werewolves, on an attack one of the main Vampire lairs. During this attack, you and the Stage 3 Lycanthropes must fight the other vampires while Lucian deals with the Master Vampire. After killing most of the vampires, Tor points out that Lucian has not joined up with their group yet, and your group travels to the Master Vampire's lair to investigate. You find Lucian unoncsious(in human form) and the Master Vampire accompanied by his most-trusted Lieutenants. Torig stays at the lair to hold off the Master Vampire, getting himself killed, but allowing your group to escape with Lucian relatively unscathed. You take Lucian back to the den. Yu now become a Stage 3 Lycanthrope. Ingor tells you that there is a Giant who has been lurking around the vicinity of their den, and has been scaring off livestock and humans(both of which are prey). You and Victoria must go to the Giant's camp and kill him. When arriving at the camp, Victoria insults you, and tells you to back off, she wants to take care of the giant. Victoria rushes in, and is quickly defeated by the giant(Victoira is a 'vital' npc, so she is unkillable). After you kill the giant, she relucantly thanks you for saving her life, and the grudge she holds against your character will sooon begin to fade away. When you return, Lucian is alright, but something seems different about him. He seems more aggresive, and more paranoid. The truth is, the Master Vampire, is a Master in Illusion, and when battling Lucian, he corrupted him.

After a while, Lucian will come up to you, saying that he has a score to settle with the Master Vampire and would like you to come with him. He says that the few remaining vampires have fled their home and have taken refuge in a small cave on the border of Hjaalmarch and Whiterun Hold. Once in the cave, you and Lucian kill the Master Vampire's few remaining minions. You then fight the Master Vampire. Upon defeating him(but no killing) you are confronted by Lucian. He thanks you for taking care of the Master Vampire for him, but now he must kill you for fear of you replacing him as the Alpha Male. After killing Lucian, you search his body finding his journal, it's contents discussing a plot to killing you, and selling the clan out to the Vigilants of Stendarr. You now reach the strongest stage of Lycanthropy, stage 4. While you were busy fighting Lucian, the Master Vampire escapes. Once you leave the cave, you find a large gruop of vigilants waiting for you, along with the Master Vampire, who has been imprisoned. You are forced to surrender, due to being sheerly outnumbered. You are taken to a prison underneath the safehouse of the Vigilants of Stendarr in the Pale(I forgot the name of the place and their leader's name). You and the Master Vampire are imprisoned. You form a truce with the Master Vampire to successfully escape, as you will be required to cooperate. Once agreeing to work with the severly weakened Master Vampire, you will begin to feign a fight. After a while, one of the Vigilans will unlock your cell and try to stop the fighting. You both turn on him, and kill him. Now you have the option to continue to fight with the Master Vampire until you escape the prison. If you help the Master Vampire, he promises to leave Skyrim forever and give you the key to his chest in their main cave. Alternatively, you can kill him and loot the key.

After escaping the prison, you must quickly hurry back to your home in Falkreath. You explain to the other members what happened, and that they must wipe out the Vigilants of Stendarr before they can attack their home. You go to the safehouse itself, in the pale, after killing most of the Vigilants. You fight their leader. Same option as you had with the Master Vampire. You can let her live or kill her. After making your decision. The Werewolves will burn down the Vigilant safehouse. Ending the quest.
