New PC, Skyrim won't run properly at all

Post » Fri Oct 12, 2012 6:19 am

Guys

I just got myself a nice shiny new PC with a GeForce 660 card. All is good.

Except Skyrim. When I start the game -- downloaded from Steam today with no mods -- the opening goes to [censored]. The cart starts to bounce along the road, it travels are too fast, and the sentences don't finish - NPCs start talking over each other.

Uhm. Help?

Sounds like you have V-Sync disabled somewhere. Check the NCP to make sure it's not forced off or something and refresh the INI files in (My )Documents/(My )Games/Skyrim by deleting them and relaunching the game.

Doesn't look like it. Even the "Bethesda" logo doesn't appear on screen very long (like less than half a second). Grr.

I've tried locking Vsync on in the Nvidia control panel, no look. I've tried dropping it to Low everything, no luck. The PC is new built, nothing installed other than Steam and the latest Mobo, audio, BIOS and graphics card drivers.

I fixed it. In case anybody else gets this problem: AMD Overdrive was the issue. It's shipped with later AMD chips. Turn it off in Catalyst control panel. As soon as I turn it off, Skyrim is fine. As soon as I switch it on, Skyrim is.... not (unplayably glitchy).
