New Vegas changes

Post » Tue Jan 11, 2011 11:27 pm

Hi guys, F3 was the first of the franchise i ever played and i have heard of some changes that are going to be in the NV version. example, i hear there is going to be something called 'dmg. threshold' as apposed to dr, and i was wondering what the difference is? also i was wondering if anyone knows how the snowglobes are going to factor into the game, as i heard they will not be the same as the 'bobbleheads' bonuses given. lastly i have heard that we will be able to aim down the iron sights of many of the weapons, i was wondering if this could be confirmed. i am apprehensive about the perk gains every other level in NV as apposed to every level in F3, and would be grateful if someone would be willing to explain why this will be better, not worse. any other info would be gratefully received. thanks guys.

For perks it has been stated that it will probrably be 2 levels a perk.

Reason: there are alot more perks now and less skill boost perks to choose from. Perks in the first 2 games were special while in FO3 they were just not that great. Having more perks (and hopefully more helpful) but less opportunities to pick one leads to more non-godlike characters and more different character builds you can roleplay leading to more gameplays and more hours of Falloutty goodness.

There are a couple long threads about that topic. A search should help find it.

the difference between DR and DT?

DR is a percentage taken from the damage.
DT is the lowest amount of damage that has to be surpassed in order to cause harm.

Ok...i see what you are saying there. that does make sense. i would rather have less perk that are better, than more perks that svck, but from what i understand from your comment is that there will be even more perks, but they will all be awesome, making it hard to choose them all in one play and make your character godlike. excellent. thank you very much.

ok let me try and fill you in....

1.(Damage Threshold) In FO3 all armors had a DR (damage resistance rating) and in FNV this has been replaced by DT (damage threshold). Whats the difference? Well DR cuts a percentage of damage while DT cuts an actual number from the damage. Lets say I get shot by a gun that does 20 damage and I'm wearing armor with a DR rating of 10. That would mean 10% of the damage from that gun is taken away so I receive 18 damage rather than 20. Now lets use that same situation but replace DR with DT so that my armor has a DT rating of 10. DT cuts down an actual number of points from damage so instead of 20 points of damage I recieve only 10. You get it?
DR = % of damage
DT = # of damage

2.(Snoglobes) Bobbleheads have been replaced by snoglobes and no longer provide a permenent bonus to SPECIAL stats. It has been stated that finding them all offers you an in-game reward.

3.(Aim down sights) Weapons now have ADS allowing you to look down the weapons sights. This has been added to help with the real-time FPS aspect.

4.(Perks) Perks are given at every 2 levels now. With the level cap being 30 a player may have up to 15 perks. Why is this better than FO3? Well many perks from FO3 have been taken out such as ones that simply add points to skills. Less perks are recieved but more thought has been put into their design allowing more unique and diversive gameplay and to prevent players from becoming a master of all skills and god of the wastes as opposed to FO3

I think another one of the changes are that packs are coming back.
(Packs of deathclaws instead of one lone one, packs of radscorpions instead of meeting 1-3 only. etc)

The "perk every two levels" is actually an improvement from FO1and 2. In 1 and 2 you got a perk every 4 levels (3 if you had this special thing; cant remember what it was) and the perks were not very good until you hit around level 30 (but by that time, even before then, you were finished with EVERYTHING in the game). So im just pointing out that this is a great thing that their doing for us; what more can you ask for, short waiting time AND (from what i hear) great perks. :goodjob: :fallout:

The Perk every two levels is a harmless concession. It should be every three (or optionally four) levels, and ALL perks should be toned down a bit. In Fallout 1 & 2, perks were an occasional treat that allowed the player to cheat the otherwise double edged rules (just a bit). In FO3 they were passed out like candy and lost all importance.

I'm really happy about a perk every two levels and to actually have perks that will be worth half a damn, Finally I'll be able to play this game through multiple times with various characters and they'll actually be unique characters by lvl 30 instead of having almost all the same skill sets. :tops:
