Next-Gen Consoles Dropping Current-Gen Prices

Post » Thu Jul 04, 2013 7:45 am

Do you think that the release of the PS4 and X1 will drop the prices of the PS3 and 360, as well as their games?

Because I'm thinking about getting the PS4 but I'm not sure, and I want to maximize my profit of selling my current consoles. Would it be a bad move to wait to see how the new consoles do before selling mine, or should I sell them right now?

Also, did the announcement of the PS4 and X1 already lower the current console prices?

Well, I've already some articles stating that some places have dropped the PS3 down to as little as £90.

I'll try and find the article again.

Okay, now my next problem is that I want GTA V and it hasn't been announced for next-gen. Rockstar probably will release the game for PC and next-gen but I want to be safe and sure.

That depends on the console you already have. If you have a 360 I guess, I would be more inclined to sell that while the PS3 will still hold it's value a bit as an entertainment piece. Really, I wouldn't see either though. They are always good for a backup platform.

When it comes to the PS3, it doesn't hurt to have a backup BluRay player in the house.

Until they officially announce a release for PC and next gen consoles, you have no way of knowing when (or if) they will.

So do you think it would be a good move to sell them now and presume that GTA V will come to PC and next-gen, based on the fact that the series' games have always come to PC in the past?

Are you going to completely give up your current game library too? The new consoles will not play previous gen games.

Yeah, I don't really play many of my games anymore so that's not an issue.

One thing to consider, PS3 and 360 titles are going to be in the Bargain bins in a short period of time after the new ones release. I remember seeing bins of games for $5 and $10. I still have some games from that era that I have not yet played.

Well I just want to know if I should sell my consoles and pray that GTA V comes to PS4, or wait and see.

Actually, I'd do the exact opposite and keep the consoles that I know the game is coming out on, at least until I've heard official word from Rockstar that they will port to PC or next gen.

I think I'll just do this. Even though I might lose some profit from not selling the consoles, I'll be on the safe side with GTA V. Although I suspect R* won't announce it for PC and next-gen until the end of September (that is if they even do).

BUT maybe I won't lose too much profit because R* will probably announce the game for next-gen before the new consoles even come out. So I can just sell my consoles at that point.

GTA V is a current gen game. Rockstar said any thoughts of it coming to next gen are "conspiracy theories". Those were there exact words. I'm a frequent member of GTAF, the biggest GTA community out there, and it's well known Rockstar has no interest in making a next gen port. PC will come I'm sure, but I would absolutely not entertain the thought of getting rid of your current gen platform if you want to play V.

I'm curious as to why they don't make it for the next-gen as well, to rack in even more money.

Probably Licensing costs. I am sure the new consoles cost the game developers more money. Plus, if the tech is not needed for the game, why do it?

Because it'll look sixY!
Also, it just doesn't make sense that a huge giant game from a humongous company like Rockstar would release so close to the release of the next-gen consoles, yet not come to them.

The PS3/360 will still be around for a long time, more than enough for them to sell plenty of copies of GTA V.

Another thing to consider - if they do port it to next gen consoles, they risk alienating parts of their customer base. People with the PS3/360 ports will feel like they're getting an inferior game if Rockstar adds new features (or even improved graphics) to the next gen ports, while people who get the XBox One/PS4 ports will feel like they're being ripped off if they don't.

It's probably less of a headache to just aim for the PS3/360 market, and move to the next gen consoles with GTA VI.

You're reasoning makes sense, but it's not a good reason. People who have the next-gen consoles SHOULD have improved graphics and possibly other things. You get what you pay for. Although I think you may be right, unfortunately.

Yeah and Rockstar have been saying that they are only interested in current gen right now because of the current install base. Over 150 million consoles out their worldwide. They'll be fine. GTA V is being predicted to be the best selling game this gen.

Here's the kicker. I think it's more than that. Rockstar has taken jabs at Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, and yearly releases. They take great pride in their work. I think launching in September, right before next gen is exactly what they want. The head of Take Two said that "not a single gamer will wait for next gen after they see how ambitious V is." I think they are actually getting a thrill at the thought of competing with the console launch. They aren't concerned about any competition. Not any game series. Not even a console launch. That's confidence in your work if I've ever seen it.
