NIF Models - Exporting Collision?

Post » Sat Feb 02, 2013 12:41 am

Hopefully a quick one; is there any way to export collision along with a mesh from 3ds Max?

I'm using TheFigment's NIF plugin for 3ds Max which has a tickbox for collision but i'm not sure what I need to set up in 3ds Max, is it just a matter of modelling a simplified mesh and assigning it a modifier of sorts? When I import a vanilla mesh into 3ds Max I only see the mesh but no collision mesh. Upon inspecting the vanilla model in Nifskope I can see it has a bhkCollisionObject so I know the mesh i'm importing into 3ds Max has a collision mesh. (eg: objects like burialcairn01.nif)

Also just out of curiosity, what's the status on Bethesda releasing their importer/exporter for Skyrim? I recall they released one for Morrowind.

No one is currently working on a nif plugin for 3dsmax. Most of Skyrim's static collision is compressed and has yet to be decoded. However there is a method currently available to cheat the system and get working static collision into Skyrim. See first post in thread linked in my sig for links to tools needed and a link to the tutorial.

Never going to happen, because Bethesda is using a proprietary code since Oblivion(Havok) they are legally bound to keep it to themselves. It's up to us to hack the format and that is what Nif Tools are for.
