nifscope added trishapes

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:09 am

does anyone know how to add a nittrishape property to an already excisting nif? basically im making a shield and i have two seperate pieces, each with its own cubemap and texture, unfortunately none of the vanilla shields have two Nitrishapes so i tried to add one using common sense and logic, i added it as a child and created a the lighting and the texture set and gave it unique value ( i scroled through until i found one that said steel shield next to it) and everything but when i tried to load the nif into the game it crashed to desktop, any help would be greatly appreciated

additional nitrishapes added in nifskope need to be nested using the same parent/child node relationship as the existing nitrishape.

i.e. your nitrishapes should both be siblings to the parent ninode. if you add a nitrishape that is not a child of the parent node, it will crash in game

Any number of things can go wrong when you try to mash a mesh together in just Nifskope.
A shield is a rigged object and the new TriShape you added probably isn't rigged.
It would need to be properly connected and rigged in a 3D modeling program.

what do you mean by connected and rigged? i usually do the same thing with my swords so i can have a different cube for the dull and shiny parts, except i dont have to manually add them, because the glass sword has two trishapes in the vanilla version

Huh, my mistake. I didn't look at it first. Skyrim shields are different than Oblivion shields that are rigged to the player/NPC skeleton to move with the body. Skyrim shields aren't. So it should be easy enough to copy/paste a TriShape from something into the existing shield you want. Right-click, select Copy Branch so you get it all, then right-click, Paste Branch into the new mesh.

If it's not working, post a pic of your mesh in Nifskope showing the TriShapes and the BSLightingProperties.

Change the Consistency Flag in the NiTriShapeData to CT_Static. Make sure both nodes are changed.
