NifSkope Relative Paths

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:30 am

Alright, so I feel like this is a really stupid question, but I didn't find a satisfactory answer via Google or anything similar, so I'm turning the experts:

I've worked with textures a bit in the past (mostly with Oblivion), and I remember setting NifSkope to keep only relative paths to textures, so that users who ran their game from a non-default location could still render the items properly. I've just downloaded the newest version of NifSkope (1.1.0 rc6) again, and am planning to start modding Skyrim, but have been having trouble making these relative paths work easily. The Auto-Detect Game Paths button will not recognize Skyrim (I believe that was how I accomplished this with Oblivion, but I could be misguided). Is there any other way to set NifSkope to automatically use relative paths, or will I have to manually delete the first half of every reference to one of my textures?

Thanks for your time, I greatly appreciate the help!

Instead of using the AutoDetect button use the Custom - Add Folder Button (press it and that adds a Choose a Folder selection - down toward the bottom of the paths box press Folder and then browse to your Skyrim\Data\ Folder (do not include the Textures folder) and press enter to add it to the top of the list (OR type in the full path in the Choose a folder input box instead of browsing to the folder) For Example on my system it is D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\Common\skyrim\Data

Ah, that's exactly what I was looking for! Much obliged!
