I think it's pretty badass. all the enemies uniting together to take Tamriel for themselves. Ebonhart Pact!

I made a post http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1371674-the-ebonheart-pact/ that gives a lore friendly explanation.

Yeah no doubt, I think it is a fairly safe bet that the server population on most servers will be balanced in favor of the Ebonheart Pact leading to an Ebonheart Pact dominance on most servers. At best we can hope that given the 3 faction system there will be some sort of truce system that could be put in place between the 2 weaker factions should 1 faction prove to become too powerful.

The only reasonable explanation I can see for Argonians working with the Dunmer is if they are bound by chains.

Its not up to the Argonians.
I made a pretty good case in that thread I linked.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

It doesn't stop them from hating each other, but mutual advantage against a common foe has united less likely entities.

And yes, 3 faction RvR will help imbalanced factions a lot. The Ebonheart Pact might be initially powerful, but chances are they cannot completely over power the other two... unless they can keep the Covenant and Dominion from allying.

The nords tried to envade Morrowind before, so seeing those to in an alliance seems odd.

Once again. the enemy of my enemy is my friend. keep your friends close and your enemies closer. the pure battles of hatred coming from the Ebonhart Pact will be stories of Legend! only then once again uniting to take control of Tamriel!

Nords have also allied with the Dunmer before. This means they're more than cardboard cut out factions, meant to fight each other for all time.

Join the argonians, we have lusty maids. My mind has yet to compute some of the things written lore wise about this game. Give me a few days then I will be able to weigh in properly about my opinion on it

I made a pretty good case in that thread I linked.

Yes, that was a great assessment Merari.

I wrote this to explain the Ebonheart alliance:

Its not impossible.
If the threat is Cyrodiil then it makes geographic sense for one.

The living gods of Morrowind are at full power, or very nearly that, and possibly the neighbouring provinces seek protection from them in the form of an alliance.
I can see Vivec or Almalexia agreeing to that, if they got something in return.
Hlaalu wouldnt mind favourable trade agreements, Dres could get slaves out of it.
Indoril would follow the Triune, Redoran wouldnt care one way or the other and be insular, and Telvanni would be firmly fragmented with an official stance taken by Telvannis but each mage-lord just doing what he himself wants anyway.

In fact, if the Dunmer milk their position as most powerful and umbrella member of this alliance for all they can get, it goes some way to explaining later hostility between the Dunmer and the other two.
--
On the Argonians, the most important factor is the Hist, who by their very nature we cannot understand.
Their machinations are long-term and alien.
It is quite possible that they would hand over territory and Argonian slaves, for all we know an individual Argonian is not that important to the Hist, who have a hivemind themselves, in exchange for protection against a threat.
It is not beyond the realm of possibilities that the Hist already know enough about future events, or are capable of such longterm and intricate machinations that they see this as a temporary setback.
They might already know they get everything back and then some after the events of the Red Year, post Oblivion crisis.

What the Argonians themselves think is I believe largely irrelevant.

Note the Oblivion rumour where many Argonians heeded 'the calling' and returned to Black Marsh.
--

The Nord and Dunmer have worked together before, for instance against Dwemereth, and will do so again, for instance after the fall of Baar Dau.
