It's not Falkreath which is troublesome, It's dawnstar!

So,
after reading through about a dozen posts about how people seem to be unable to get the Falkreath land plot, I've found myself in quite a pickle.

When I finished my house in Falkreath and went to spread my inheritance, I decided The Pale would be a good location for my next house...
I went to go ahead and had a chat with the Yarl, which apperantly didn't care too much about me because wouldn't let me talk about it.
So I went and checked if I had any quests active for that area; Nothing...

Any Idea's?
The Yarl refuses to give me the option and there are no qeusts for that area active.

It's "Jarl". I think maybe all you have to do is kill that Giant for him, not the bounty though.

Have you done the Daedric quest with Erandur? You have to finish that and that he'll ask you to kill a giant. After that, you can buy land.

This is a bug most likely, if no quests are available in Dawnstar for you to complete and the option is still not appearing. Someone was mentioning this very situation yesterday here. Not sure what you can do really, try saving and restarting the console.

This.

I was in the same boat, then did the skull of corruption quest where the town is having bad dreams. After that the dialogue option to do some work for the jarl appeared, which was to kill a giant and once I completed that I was able to buy the plot.

Yeah you could have just waited for a workaround or perhaps a patch.

To buy the plot in the Pale, you need to have completed the Daedric Quest in Dawnstar and done a radiant quest for the Jarl, which will send you to kill a giant. To be given the radiant quest, you need to be at least level 22.

Hearthfire is a little buggy. I say this because I own the plot of land in the Pale and have built a house there and I'm not the thane of the Pale. I haven't done the giant quest or Waking Nightmare. I started Hearthfire, a courier gave me a letter saying the Jarl of the Pale had a plot of land for sale, and I bought it. I'm not sure why this happened, but I'm planning on becoming thane just so things don't bug out.
