Not sure if mods are working

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:40 pm

Hello :)

I'm a little bit confused as to whether my texture mods are working or not. I've got enhanced blood textures, but since the texture "folder" is now a BFA, my Fallout Mod Manager has my computer recognise it as this and not a folder.

Does creating a new texture folder mean that any textures "added" would be put in the game, or do I have to do it through the original "folder"?

I am confused about this as well. I do not have folders for things like textures, they are all Archive files...How do I add mods to them? Thanks

Inside the data folder, make a folder called textures and one called meshes.

If you use the BSA extractor built into FOMM, it will extract the textures etc to the correct path once you specify it.

Is that what you're talking about?

This is how all of Bethesdas game have been, or am I confusing this with something else?

So I should extract the textures from the BSA file into a folder, then add mods to that folder? What do I do with the BSA do I delete it?

You don't do anything with the BSA files to install mods. Follow the installation instructions. If a folder does not exist, create it.

So I should extract the textures from the BSA file into a folder, then add mods to that folder? What do I do with the BSA do I delete it?

This is for extracting textures to MAKE a mod:

Don't delete the BSA, that has every single texture used in the game.

If you use the BSA browser built into FOMM, you can pick specific 'branches' of textures, instead of extracting every single one of them,
then, when it comes time to extract, FOMM will ask where you want to extract them, point FOMM to your SkyRim Data folder, and it will create a textures folder (if you're extracting textures) and it will make a meshes folder (if you're extracting meshes), it will keep the directory structure intact automatically.

SO if you extracted some armor the path might be Data\textures\armor\DBArmor\ etc...then if you edit that texture, the game engine 'should' use the extracted texture and override the one in the BSA

This part is for INSTALLING a texture mod by hand

If you're installing an already made mod, then you should be able to extract it to the Data folder, because the modder should have the directory structure set up properly in the rar or zip file.
The extracted texture will OVERRIDE the texture used in the BSA.

Was confused on whether you were installing a mod, or making one.....

So it is okay to have a BSA file for textures, then I create a folder in the same directory called textures and add the mod to it? How will it replace the existing texture then?

Read my post.....

OKay I am intending to ADD mods, not create them. When I download a mod it already has the textures sorted in branches of folders that are appropriate. My only issue is that I only have a BSA file. Will it over write the BSA?

Okay, I was not sure but this should work fine then. Thanks!

Unless there's a file in the rar or zip called Textures.BSA, then no, it won't overwrite anything.

When extracting any mod, always check the included folder structure, as some mods include the Data folder and therefore should be installed appropriately. It's best to first extract a mod to any empty temporary folder so that you can examine the folder structure. If you find that a mod isn't working, check your Data folder, if you see a second Data folder (skyrim\Data\Data) then move the second Data folder up to your Skyrim folder. No mod should ever overwrite any of the default .bsa files, the only time the default .bsa files will be altered is when Bethesda releases a patch that needs to make updates to those files.

Just remember that when you start the game, you have to go into Data Files and tick 'load loose files' otherwise the new textures won't show up. Also, you may have to do this everytime you start the game. I always have to re-tick load loose files for some reason.

Sorry, I was just installing a mod :)

I'm not good enough with computers to actually make one!
