Not too fond of Skyrim

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 11:08 am

So I bought Skryim on release day very happy of getting it and played it for about 10 hours that weekend. But since than I've only played the game for about 15 hours. It just seems like there's not enough things in the game too keep me interested in it like Oblivion did.
Usually with the other TES games I would do the MQ first because it was so interesting, but for Skyrim I could only do a few quests for the MQ cause it was say... boring.

I don't know, to me it just seems like Skyrim is one of the more poor TES games that I've played. I would love to get into the game, but for some reason I just never see that happening.

Skyrim's my first TES game, and I've found it quite enjoyable. Sorry you haven't had the same experience.

Well, different strokes for different folks, but I'm not sure what you're hoping to accomplish by your post. You're posting on an official forum for a game that's been out since November. The vast majority of people like you who don't enjoy the game have long since left, so you're not likely to find a whole lot of sympathy from the masses.

That being said, if the MQ isn't your flavor (and I can understand that; there have been plenty of games that the plot simply didn't grab me and make me care about what happened next)...have you tried some of the other major questlines?

I think Oblivion was great. Everybody who played Morrowind before kept telling me how much of a poor game Oblivion was compared to Morrowind. I think Skyrim kinda pales compared to Oblivion. It seems to be just a matter of first time experience really. TES game really offer an overwhelming experience the first time you play them. Not many games like TES out there. Gotta admit there is something kinda blend in Skyrim though. It hasn't got life like Oblivion did.

Yeah I've been away from the forums for awhile and just wanted to share this.
But I've completed the Dark Brotherhood quest (It was alright). I didn't like how
Spoiler
the db just ends after you get the new sanctuary

Maybe it's because I'm not too happy with how the environment is in some places, like all the snow and stuff. Maybe I'm looking for more of a challenge and should play on the hardest difficulty or that I'm playing on PS3 which I usually play on 360. These are all things I'm going to have to look at.

I can see what you saying Red Guardian, Oblivion was my first TES game also. And I've gone back and played em' all but Oblivion is by far my favorite.

for me, the game grew stale after about the 150hr mark.

morrowind, oblivion and fallout3 grew stale after about 500+hr and that's just a low estimate based on my age-related memory, lol.

this gamesas game is the first game where all of the faults, deficiencies and dislikes of the game are so pronounced that they detract from my enjoyment.

Bethesda games such as TES and now FO are not about doing quests, so that may be the problem. They're all about exploration of a world, and the quests are offered as an excuse to encourage the player to do so. However, experienced players often skip quests entirely because they know they don't really matter as far as the overall game is concerned.

There's also mods if you are on PC, of course. That can change things radically. For example, I cannot play Bethesda's games for more than a couple of hours without mods because I prefer East Asian character aesthetics for my designs and cannot empathize with the vanilla characters.

It's possible that the Scandanivian setting for the game isn't of interest to you, of course. Oblivion's setting created lots of negative feedback, too. It all depends on personal preference.

OP, I completely agree with what you mentioned in your spoiler. I had been exceedingly pumped up for that particular segment of the game, and found myself very disappointed in the end.

But that's not the end,
Spoiler
the night mother keeps giving you contracts to complete.
, I agree that some if not most of the quests could use a bit more meat on their bones, but I have yet to get board( yet ), if DLC doesn't hurry the F up then I may just start to get board doing the same things over and over.

Carrots-Yeah, but the spoiler you mentioned is very bland, and very clearly a radiant mad-lib scenario. It's kind of lame, really...though it does at points serve a useful purpose.

Spoiler
The only thing Night Mother quests are good for is filling up black soul gems.

I must admit I do like Oblivions main story more and how it had twist, it kept you wanting more. But these games are not only based on the main quest. And frankly the only memorable parts of Oblivion was the MQ, daedric quest, and guild quest. Skyrim has those and more, yeah the main quest is not something epic but it got the job done.

more to do and less to care about, which, is why i won't be buying any dlc unless it has actual gameplay changes and improvements to the core of the game.

more of what we already have means less. it means, i'm shaking my head that they aren't trying to improve the game's many huge faults and deficiencies.

Well its a shame that you just don't have that experience. Having played since Hammerfall I can honestly say that in my opinion the TES games have gone from strength to strength. But that's my opinion.

Damn, I should give Oblivion and Morrowind et al a go. Skyrim's the first game of this type I've ever played, and after 175+ hours I'm still totally addicted. And I'm not really doing the Main Quest either...I just do side Quests and miscellaneous stuff all the time, or I just wander about the place. So seeing some people say the earlier games are better makes me want to play them.

i agree skyrim stems out of the TeS catagory for me. I don't get that Elder Scrolls feel. It feels like more of an action game with a perk system which IMO should not be in a TeS game

I didn't experience this but I also enjoyed a lot more the previous main quests. This time it feels like the quest design, questline design and writing are not on par with other components, they seem undeveloped to me and thus not as attractive as many other things I can do, such as hunting animals in the wilderness. I used to hunt animals in the wilderness in Oblivion too, but while doing that I thought more often than not "what if I go see what happens next in that quest ..." because, well, many quests were damn interesting.

For me the worst part to Skyrim is the horrible dialogue between NPC's and the Dovahkiin when walking around, and that a lot of things feel very scripted. Like I can always find the same wolf, in the same exact place every new game. But I do think Skyrim does some things right and I do enjoy it because it's a TES game.

I know what you mean, i'm about 90 something hours in and i'm really just going around killing stuff because there is nothing else to do, i could do quest's but i don't want to, they don't intrest me like in past tes games/oblivion... so i'm hoping to take a break from skyrim and buy Morrowind and waste my life on that.

See i love playing skyrim for it's graphics, so i figure that if i spend enough time playing Morrowind with vanilla graphics, then when i play skyrim next i'll be completely floored and will only want to wonder around... :P

Yup. Really it seems to boil down to http://oi49.tinypic.com/2q36fpj.jpg

And just to clarify, I didn't start with Morrowind, but Oblivion, which I poured I don't know how many hours, days, weeks even into. I still have it too, and I was enjoying it even up until Skyrim released. Right now, the only reason I'm not playing Skyrim, is because I'm just waiting to see what the DLC is going to be before I invest a lot of time and planning into a new character. I don't know if that even makes sense... BUT HEY! That's what I'm doing, I love the game, and yes it has its flaws, but if the game itself is not your cup of tea then you could always just go back to a previous title, or wait a year or two then play it with all the official DLC's.
