not utilizing multiple cores ?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:34 pm

hello, I was wondering if anyone else was getting very low fps. i removed v sync and my frames will go to 80 then 50 40 etc. is there a console command to enable multicore ? im using a phenom x6 oc to 4ghz and a gtx480. i have even tried putting everything on low etc and still no change : /

If they're only allowing it to use one core, that's patently absurd. Someone please tell me that's not the case...

The recommended specs would ask for a quad core if that was the case.

But damn if it turns out it only uses one core.

i really think it is only using one core my cpu temps dont budge running this game. there must be a console command for this to get them all running, also might i add that under the render info file i opened with notepad it says my hardware thread count is 4 which is not true im using a x6 : /

You can check it in your task manager you know. It'll have charts for each core. Just ctrl-alt-delete, open task manager, select 'always on top' in the options and start the game in windowed mode.

I'm interested because I have the same cpu!

Wow. What the hell?! Beth is seriously going to make me rage. This stuff isn't that difficult. It's really not.

Example: BF3 I see consistent 80-95% CPU usage (I have dual quad-cores) ... just what I'd hope to see from a well optimized game.

Just like normal folks do, Bethesda, if you don't know how to do something, ask someone who does.

I knew some smart butt (thanks swear filter) would say that.

Do you know?

It's not my job to optimize games. I'm great at what I do, and people expect me to be. Guess what happens if I do poorly? That's right, I get fired. It's not asking much to expect a multi-, multi-million dollar company to show some proficiency.

If I'd never seen a well optimized game, I'd reasonably conclude that it might be prohibitively difficult. But, since most games ARE well optimized, and this is a consistent issue for Beth., then until proven otherwise, I'll logically assume that it's not difficult, it just requires work (Which Beth. seems to dislike.)

were talking about optimized code are we not ahaha.... with the one core its using im getting like 124-110-90 fps in the cave when i go out side its all over the place like 70-60-45 ... on ever single setting i choose for visual settings low u name it it doesnt change. its poor coding. if it was optimized for multi it would deff be running alot better. i was playing for a bit and alt tabbed again and it was 19% lol btw read this http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-10-bethesda-developing-for-pc-is-a-headache

I totally get what he's saying about the various hardware configs making it a headache. But that's their job. If they don't like it, find a new one. I'm sure there are plenty of talented people out there who'd take their job in a heartbeat.

As to piracy: it exists on consoles, too, just to a somewhat smaller extent.

I'm a bit wary of starting up the game on my PC now, after reading all of the complaints people have about the PC version.
Now, I read that it only uses one core? What the hell, Beth?
It was barely acceptable with Oblivion, as multi-core CPU's weren't the norm yet, but how do you expect to get away with this in 2011?

EDIT: Sorry if I sound like a troll, I'm just kind of disconcerted by the large influx of problems people are having with the PC version of this game.

Tried turning off hyperthreading in the bios. My i7 quad is using all cores now, but does not pass 60% cpu usage.
So what i have feared the most has happened, another console port being badly optimized on release. Have been looking forward to this weekend for a long time now.
Hate that developers just neglect customers like this.

The recommended specs list a quad-core processor. Why would it only use one core?

Sounds about right. Oblivion runs on one core for all intents and purposes and on a quad core would only show around 25% usage maxed out, so yeah.

All I know is that people were playing pre-gold versions of Skyrim weeks ago... on the 360.

You know...maybe there is a reason the devs mostly play on consoles...Todd Howards claims he likes the Xbox 360. Pete Hines plays on the PS3...damn. I am preloading right now and nothing is killing my hype more than all this [censored]. Tempted to just go buy the friggin Xbox version even though I have the PC one. You know what. i think I will just get Assassins Creed instead and jam Dark Souls. I will wait for this to be fixed if it really is as big a problem as it seems. Either people are being ridiculous(a possibility) or bethesda has releases a POS PC port. It is their JOB to make a good game. If they release it on all platforms, it is their JOB to make sure they are done well. If not they should hire other people to do the JOB. I am hoping most of you on here who are complaining are the minority.
