Not Worth Buying if Left-Handed?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 7:22 pm

Many lefty's are stating that this game is pretty much unplayable for them due to the lack of key-binding availability. As a lefty myself I would like to know from those lefty's who have experience the game, whether I should not bother purchasing Skyrim.
I cannot afford and am not will to fork out money for a console controller adaptation.
Thanks!

Correct. It's not really made for PC users in general, and it's worse for southpaws. Try again in 6 months.

Your loss, grab a 360 controller and you should be fine. Anyway, I thought the game had a key-bind facility?

4 of the 5 members of my family are left handed, so it's a big issue for us.

It does, but certain things, like exiting from containers, is bound to the Tab key and can't be moved.

Yeah how dare they be born left-handed.

Wasn't my point, I personally know a lot of left-handed people, and none of them complain about PC controls. They just adjust, and get on with it. As I said, controller is a viable option.

I'm really upset that the mouse doesn't use windows mouse. Mine is set to left handed in windows and in the game I have to use the left button (my middle finger) to select things instead of how I normally do it (Right button index finger). Sure I can remap ingame mouse clicks to left and right hand.. (Odly the game came installed default with the left button swinging the right hand and the right button swinging the left hand.. wtf..) But I'd like to be able to select things in the menu using the right button.. small but important to me!

Can't remap keys to the numpad REALLY pisses me off.. I use 8, 4, 6, and 2 to move, 0 to jump, 5 to 'use' things... wtf Bethesda.. and when I try remapping it simply says 'that key is reserved..' reserved for what?? why can't i changed the reserved function so i can MOVE MY CHARACTER USING MY RIGHT HAND ON THE NUMPAD..?

haven't even gotten past character creation yet because I had to tab out and see if there was anyway in hell I could remap keys and mousebuttons..

I'm left handed. I have no problems at all. What helps is, binding your movement keys to arrows on the key pad. Then your left hand can easily cover the rest of the keyboard.

Huh? First thing I did was change the movement from W,A,S,D to the arrow keys.

Don't you need your left hand for the mouse though? Like attacking and stuff?

A note of caution. Many people experience bugs after rekeying the settings. Biggest one I've seen so far is hotkeys resetting.

I own one, and they're actually very comfortable to use (speaking as a right handed user). Not sure how it performs in Skyrim, but should be acceptable, even for a left-handed user. May take some getting used to, but then, the same is true of keyboard and mouse.

Honestly, if I were in this sort of predicament, where it actually began to interfere with my gaming habits, then I'd see if I could train myself into being ambidextrous.

As an experiment I have done so, and yes it is indeed very difficult. But you can train your brain to get used to it, you just need time and patience. Failing that, controllers tend to work well for right or left.

Hopefully the key-bind bugs will be addressed in the coming days, but until then, it might be worth trying a controller out. A left-handed friend of mine has a 360, and I've never seen or heard of him having any problems playing games with it.

I'm left handed as well, and well, I have no problems playing this game...why? Because 15 years ago when I first got into computers, I decided that life will be much easier if I learned to use the mouse with my right hand and keyboard with my left. It's a right handed world my fellow southpaws, improvise, overcome, and adapt.

Can't equip a sword in left hand in game and a shield in right hand in game.. Shields are apparently LEFT HAND ONLY..

for everyone that is shouting 'L2RH!!1' ... seriously? you're going to treat me like ass because I use a different hand then you do and am complaining about the lack of features in a game? How about showing some respect please.. thank you :)

Learn to use your right hand?

After some effort I can now easily switch between typing in qwerty and dvorak. Is handedness similar?

This. I used a mouse on the left-side of my keyboard for about a year when I was 11 or so. Ever since then, I've just accepted that there are absolutely NO sympathizers for left-handed people in the computer and/or computer gaming industry.
