» Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:45 am First Id like to say to the Devs that Dawnguard to me is well worth the 1600 MS points spent. There are bugs & glitches in the game but so far nothing compared to the amount of game breaking bugs that were happening right after Skyrims launch release.
Also there is a definate bug (prior to the one Im going to share with you below ) with the quest "Find Word Wall at Arkwind Point" after you find the word and return back to the grey beards ~ the quest sticks and can not be removed. Ive tried several play thrus where getting the new word first before heading to the grey beards for if any new words can be found and the quest "Find Word at Arkwind Point" still comes up as if the quest or word found never happend. The quest perma sticks in the journal ~ so basically you can not ask the grey beards if there are any new words to be found anymore because of this.
Ok now on with the main bug that just happend about an 2hours ago.
During every Dawnguard playthru with my character He has fought and encountered many Volkihar and Vampires in both warewolf beast mode and as human. Not once has he contracted Vampirism from them because Ive always been a warewolf.
So back to topic ~ Yes my character has become half warewolf and vampire. I'll describe what happend and how I believe it happend. Im on XBOX360 and I dont know how to create a screenshot from my XBOX to post here to prove it.
How I believe it happend:
I finished the main quest again yesterday and decided this moring to return back to the Soul Carin to do Juib's (sp?) quest for his book. Well the Soul Carin would not let me pass even tho Sarena's mother told me that I can return whenever I wish.
I am warewolf almost 500days and never once vampire.
Sarena is with me and I remember her saying that I could pass thru if I were a vampire. So I thought ..... hmm ok well I can always go back to Aela and she can return my status back to warewolf. So I had Sarena bite my neck to become a vampire lord.
I walk to the Soul Carin ~ I still can not pass thru.
I transform into a Vampire Lord walk to the Soul Carin ~ I still can not pass thru.
At this point I thought ~ well i guess the game is @#$%@ bugged ! Screw it I'll go find something else to do in the game.
* I reload to a previous save before the transformation ~ I double check my Powers to be sure that I am still a Warewolf (beast mode) and not a Vampire ~ and everything was fine. My previous save kept me as a warewolf and all was good.
I know this might be long but I want to provide the Devs of Bethesda with as much information about how this happend in this post.
Ok ... I reload that previous save and exit castle Volkihar via the short cut balcony exit. I fast travel to castle Dawnguard. Spoke with Gunmar and decided Id buy one of his armored snow Trolls for 500coins. I start the Aetherium quest via the book ~ and I fast travel to the first location to meet up with Katria.
in my party: Katria, Sareena & the armored snow troll.
At this point I was going to transform into a warewolf as I glanced at my powers and thought nah..... I'll do this quest as human. This dungeon will be fast and quick ...so I thought.
Gunmar's words to me before leaving were exactly "If you dont give the troll the attention it needs it will turn on you and go back to the wild, and theres no telling who or what the troll will attack. Just warning you that if this beast goes feral be prepared."
So half way thru while escalating up the narrow dirt path my Armored Troll turns and attacks Sarena!
First thought was well I guess Gunmar was right afterall ~ those things can turn at any moment. So I tried to kill the Armored Troll and pull it off of Serana. But.......Sarena started casting her spells on me! <------This is where I believe the vampirism took hold.
I never attacked her or was even at a close distance to her. As the armored troll kept attacking her Sarena kept casting spells on me the red stuff. Then Katria jumped in on the action and started attacking Sarena as well. Sarena fell off the ledge into the water rapids below. I turned to the Troll and just killed it. I was so pissed off at what he did seriously what the hell was he thinking to attack her.
Btw ~ for those wondering if I had the arrow curser over Sarena for the troll to attack her ~ there is no option like this to command the troll. The troll just assists you during a battle.
So the troll is dead and Sarena is somewhere miles below in the water rapids and its only me and Katria left. So we press on without them.
As we get closer to the Aetherium shard ~ we are attacked by the Falmer. During this battle is where I first saw the text "YOUR VAMPIRE HUNGER FADES AS YOU FEED" screen goes dim red as I am attacking a Falmer.
I attack another Falmer ~ screen goes red again with the same text "Your Vampire Hunger Fades as you Feed"
*Also note ~ I am not a mage I do not and never cast spells. I use a dragon bone shield and a new dragon bone sword.
So after all the Falmer are dead I stopped to check to see if I contracted vampirism. Sure enough I did ~ I also had a new power Vampire's Servant. And .....Beast Form remained. Serana eventually found her way back to Me and no longer hostile.
I thought to myself WTF? there are no vampires in this dwemer ruin place and only Falmer. Here I created a save point and reloaded back to my first autosave when I entered into the place. Checked my powers ....and there was no vampire powers, only Beast Form warewolf. So.... there is only one vampire that could have given me vampirism and I turned around and looked back at Serana.
*I exited and reloaded the save where I have the Vampire Servant power & Beast Form and continued on with the quest Aetherium Shard. I pressed on thru the remaining part of the quest for all Four shards and fast traveled to the Aetherium Forge.
Here is where I tested to see if what I contracted really worked. I killed the bandits in human form and then went over to the empire camp nearby and slayed them too. I selected Vampires Servant and casted on a dead corpse ~ the corpse rose up. The power infact worked.
Then I transformed into a Warewolf and the undead servant followed me ~ we killed a few more empire soliders and I proceeded to feed on the corpses. Added a new perk point after feeding and thought hmm....well I wonder if I can get my powers to grow. I transformed back into a human and I set the wait time clock for 2days.
After wait time clock passed ~ "Your Vampire blood boils and your powers Grow" ......Vampire Seduction.
So there you have it ~ I am half Warewolf and half Vampire in game.
Ive thought about trying to get Aela to cure me or getting the cure in Morthal ~ but why?? My skin is not pale, Ive retained my warewolf eyes, my face looks normal and not shadowed with vampire lord features. The only thing Ive noticed is that the Sun still burns my skin. But its not that bad at all really. Not like the burn from the sun when you are a Vampire Lord.
And honestly ~ Im liking this. The only down side is that if in fact this is a new feature that was never mentioned before then why didnt I get a new Xbox Trophy Unlock??
And why isnt there a unique appearance to my character when I transform into a Warewolf ~ being also now half Vampire. Are there unique powers that go with this?
And shouldnt I be immune to the sunlight as well because I am part Warewolf ?
Anyway ~ Im sorry for the wall of text and mispelled words but I dont think I want to get a cure. Im going to continue on with this as if it was apart of the history of my character in game. And just go with it.
*edit: I just wanted to add in that Sarena is an awesome new character. And her "ai" is very well written along with her random text lines. And if there were an option in game to mara amulet / marry her in game I would definately let my char do so. Btw bethesda ~ her text lines about marriage are definately there why cant we wed Sarena? makes no sence after all she is now alone after the fall of father and castle volkihar and her mother in the soul carin. In the next patch please just give us the option to let Sarena be wed. thanks.
