NPC Deaths

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:43 pm

I'm wondering about how NPC deaths should be handled.
In Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim certain NPC's were tagged as essential so that they could not be killed.
Other NPC's that can be killed are killed then they don't come back.

I know that it's not the same developer behind TESO, but I'm still curious as to how people want it to be like.
For example, if I want to be an assassin then it really gets on my nerve if I can't kill certain NPC's.
So I want to be able to kill a major quest giver, he is not going to be easy to kill, but I want to be able to kill him.
How should they handle this?
Avoid being able to kill any NPC's at all?
Respawn? If so, how long?

Personally, I want everything to be killable, but I want things to respawn after 1 hour.
If it [censored]s things up for other players then so be it, limitating my choice in who I can kill is bad design, RPG-wise, IMO.

..............your last paragraph pretty much answers why you won't be able to kill every NPC.

-Scissors-

It could answer the question, but it could also not answer the question.

I can agree with his idea, it would make the game world that much more RP-able in a sense.

Well it ain't really an RPG if we don't get a choice to do certain things.
If someone repeatably kill off all NPC's at a starting area the person could get warnings and get banned for 1 week or month if they continue.
Abusing this system should be punished, but doing it from an RP perspective should be available.
