Npcs don't react to what you do, feels like my actions have

Post » Wed Aug 22, 2012 3:55 am

I was playing skyrim and some hired thugs attacked me in whiterun, I found out that sigurd had hired them and decided that I would take revenge. So while he was sleeping, I put an arrow in his chest and left the house. In the morning I went into belethors general goods store to sell some crap and he didn't care atall that his assistant had just been killed. I hope they do something about this in the next game. It makes the world seem kind of empty

I found it odd that NPCs just walk around a corpse like it's Tuesday. Are they that used to dead people? Now I'm scared...

Join the club, many have come to this conclusion, prepare to be broadsided though.

I once stated many many moons ago how despite the tech has advanced over the decade, how life like the NPC's have become. moving/walking/talking/having jobs/doing stuff. Skyrim is still as Static as Morrowind.

the NPC's may not have moved from Cell to cell, they didn't have Idles, they didn't have schedules and are basically waitnig on hand and knee to speak with you. but at least what the relevant npc's (I.E READ NOT COMMON COPY PAST DIALOG RESPONSES) possessed interesting dialog and conversation, for the duration that you don't know what they speak.

Or a Dragon attacks a town/hold and once it is killed. Everybody forgets about it and goes about their day.

The guards still think I fetch the mead for the Companions. I'm the Harbinger!

I've just gotten used to it.

So far I haven't had that dialog option because hardly anybody got killed by them. What I mean is that a Dragon can attack a hold. Everybody is running and screaming and once it is over. The only things they say about it is when they walk past the skeleton. If I talk to somebody right after the attack. They have the normal dialog.

What I love is when they say something about you being the leader of it. And right after they say what you posted.

Yeah I have some news.

This just in, Guards instantly know what guild I've joined and what skills I'm proficient in. has nothing to do with AI.

I expected Bethesda to improve on such things. Those awful one liners make want to kick someone.

They used to improve on such things, then they took an arrow in the knee.

Well, they DO stop and say something about how they gonna find the one who did this, but then it's not like they care.

I wish there was a reputation system. For example, my first character was thinking about buying the house in Markarth, so she went and talked to the Jarl. "I don't know you", he said in a suspicious tone, and "are you a sellsword?"
No, my character thought, I'm the Harbinger of the Companions and the slayer of Alduin. I negotiated a ceasefire between Tullius and Ulfric Stormcloak, I'm Thane of Whiterun, Winterhold, Falkreath and the Rift. Ok, I find it reasonable that you don't know that I'm also Nightingale of Nocturnal and next in line to become Guildmaster of the Thieves' Guild, but you're a frigging Jarl, you really ought to know the rest. And this is my husband, he's been in the Companions for ages, you should recognize him, too.

That's another thing I'd like to see, btw. NPCs recognizing each other. And recognizing the fact that I have a follower. "You took on all those bandits yourself?" "No, erhm, the guy over there helped me..."

Ah thats nice, so it is in the game - just not for every NPC. After killing her a courier approached me and told me that I was in her will and she left me some money, felt so bad after that:P

of course they do, I swing my sword, they say be careful. I run around with spells, they say be careful. I attack one, I get a bounty and they attack.

but when I end a civil war, complete major storylines in the guilds, lay waste to villages (atleast everyone not essential....which isnt much) and stop the World eater.

I fetch the mead.
