NPCs executing you

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 10:00 pm

Who else hates this so much? I would bet money on the fact that the blow they would have hit me with if they had not of gotten an execution would not have killed me. This is monstly a problem with strong 2h using enemies who have huge spikes in damage resulting in getting 1 or 2 shoted because of an execution. Executions are entirely unavoidable. This is so annoying because you may have been able to dodge their blow or knock them back before they hit you, but NOPE they get an execution. The execution stops you from healing yourself in anyway as well.

As you can tell, I hate this feature because its so frustrating to get 2 shotted because of a damn execution. Also, dont tell me that I would have died anyway if they got a hit on me without the execution because thats (IMO) BS.

It's inconsistent both for the enemy and for us...as I've gotten execution kills on enemies with a lot of health left still. So it's fair, but flawed obviously.

I’ve been executed with little under half of my health left before, it’s only happened once but it still was annoying. It’s annoying, but it makes you think on your feet about healing and what not.

It brings back the fear of facing of two-handded enemy.....I dont mind it....

Morrowind had a simlar thing where two handed enemies wear fearful as they could knock you down quickly....it made facing two-handers quite a challenge.

First time it happened to me with some random bandits executing me at over half hp - i was like wtf.
Another time some chief did it to me, but this time i was more happy than sad, becouse its the first time I saw a head rolling (apart from the first 2minutes) eventho it was my head.

I dont like those execution beeing so random...

Yea, I get really annoyed when I'm in mid-Shout and an execution comes out of nowhere and kills me.
I know for a fact that he wouldn't have hit me before the Shout went off, but...

I've gotten executed by a bandit chief while at about 75% health. One of those times where I didn't feel the need to heal, but got executed anyways. I learned a valuable lesson about quicksaving before bandit chiefs that day.

I hate it when a Dragon chews me up then throws my body into the air when I still have over a quarter of my health left.
And this is usually when I'm about to heal..

I also hate it when I have very little under half health and a vicious Nord runs up screaming "Sovngard awaits you!!!!!!" with a greatsword and basically cuts my head off.

I don't want to try and steal the thread or anything, but my thoughts on the matter were summed up in a thread I made a little while back that died.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1281637-a-proposed-change-for-cinematic-finishers/

To TL;DR it: Execution moves should only occur after the player has officially reached 0 health. Not "on an attack that would have reduced the character to 0 health". As for when the player activates them on enemies, I don't really care a whole lot but it does feel like the gratification of killing someone is greatly reduced when you get one when the enemy has a ton of health left. It feels like the game just hands you the kill when you didn't really earn it.

Executions only occur if the blow would have killed you. Power attacks, critical hits, etc. factor into this. It's very possible somebody got a critical hit with a power attack, butchering your health like a sabre cat at a fat kid's birthday party.

Part of the issue is the timing, it kills you when he decides to swing the attack, not when the attack connects.

Thats exactly what i thought. For me execution in Skyrim is equal to the "luck factor" of morrowind. there were also chances to miss, dodge, avoid.... But in Skyrim are consequences dramatically harder for being instantly killed. Thatswhy i love it so much.

It is TOTALLY SUX when I'm on my thief and on master difficulty, that are just so many monster can ONE SHOT me. That along isn't a problem because being a light armor thief and master in poison and shadow, I can hit and run, dodge every heavy swing that could cut me in half. BUT NOPE, whenever an enemy gets close to me, there's a chance I will get INSTAGIB!!

It's simply STUPID, and being one of the top thing I'm gonna mod out when the kit is out.

This is exactly what makes it stupid and unfair. 'Oh, a blow is coming, I guess I better move out of the w---[censored] hell'

You could block/interrupt/dodge the blows, and they never would actually connect, but instead it's an automatic death aura around the enemies.

Precisely. Particularly with the two-handers, it's extremely easy to dodge two-handed power attacks because they take a good second to connect while the attacker is immobilized, but if it results in a finisher, you never get the opportunity. The animation just has you staring at the hammer like a deer stares at on-coming headlights, even if you were barely in range while running backwards when the attack started.

I actually saw a Let's Play of Skyrim recently that highlighted this problem. The player was going toe-to-toe with a bandit, and was getting somewhat low on health. The enemy was running towards him (not attacking yet), and the moment the player pressed tab to bring up the menu, the camera switched to third person. The player used potions to heal up to full, and upon exiting the menu the bandit did a finisher and killed him... despite being in no immediate danger... simply because the game had already decided 'player dies now' before the fatal hit.

Just because you're jealous you never got to do the F**KING AW**OME jump on dragon's head and beat that B*TCH to death execution. Doesn't give you free reign to post another (seriously are you people ever fraking happy?!!) stupid complaint about this game.

Most creatures often, if not always, oneshot me as well from full hp on master difficulty. Especially dragons, they simply land and eat me right away, with full hp.
