NPCs who commonly get killed by nature?

Post » Wed Jul 18, 2012 12:46 am

I'm wanting to know because I'm making a mod that fixes suicidal wanderers.

I know Barknar in Ivarstead is one who often strays into danger and doesn't survive.

If we can avoid spoilers it'd be good.

EDIT: sorry should have specified, excluding dragon attacks, battles, the obvious. I mean those who have AI packages that make them wander, literally. Also excluding generic respawning NPCs (soldiers, farmers etc)

-The Khajiti traveling merchants.

-Riverwood and all other towns prone to dragon attack such as Dawnstar.

What would really help is if they just fled indoors or something instead of attacked.

Same, In riverwood, Alvor and some old woman died, but at least they were fleeing, only they didn't make it. Also, there was a bug where a dragon appeared in Whiterun city, and the dragon also killed some poor woman

Thats not a bug.
Its rare, but dragons can appear inside walled cities.
It more commonly happens when you fast travel a lot.

All NPCs, including those that can't be killed, can be "suicidal wanderers". I've seen some flee in one dragon attack, but fight in another, so there's no way to really give you a list.

If you want an example of this, check out the stable worker in Riften. In my first game, he died fleeing. In my third, he's making commentary about the dead dragon he helped me fight. Dravin, on the other hand, will fight if he's plowing his fields, but won't do squat if he's not.

PS: Don't forget about the horses. ;)

For some reason Nazeem keeps mysteriously dying in my saves... Also, Alvor is infamous for trying to take on dragons.

Really, because it only happened once for me, and I've killed lots of dragons across both characters, defiantly over 100, maybe over 200

I will have to disagree. It is a bug, just like it's a bug a person talking to you before you enter a room/building continues to talk to you following you in.

If you want a dragon inside a city: lure a dragon close to you by a gate, preferably when it lands on the ground. When it shouts, enter the city. There's a great chance it'll follow you in. :)

Mostly NPCs from random encounters: The farmer on his way to join the army. The peddlers with the horse. A nameless Khajit caravan (but that was intentional, I think, the caravans with named NPCs always seem to able to defend themselves. Except that one time when I used Beast Form :( ). The Frightened Woman. Random bandits, necromancers, Thalmor/Imperial/Stormcloak patrols and so on.

I've seen M'aiq and Talsgeir the Wanderer under attack a couple of times, but they are essential, so... (M'aiq however doesn't know that, he cowers and runs even from - foxes.)

The only NPC in a town who ever got killed by a dragon in my game is Runil in Falkreath. But I had to reload that one, since I died myself... Never ever had an attack in Riverwood.

I've edited my post to clarify; I don't mean those who die in dragon attacks/battles/quests. Just regular NPCs who have AI packages that cause them to travel through hostile spawn areas.

Then I'd say practically any NPC that is on the road at some point. The caravans. The members of the Companions, when they are out on jobs. Even Ulfric and Tullius (and a few other main characters) take a walk a couple of times to get from point A to point B.

Did you FT away from a dragon?

FT can put you inside a city, unlike a carriage ride. It would make sense a dragon followed you. It's the same bug. :)
