Nucious Thoughts : RAGE

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 8:23 pm

Well, I decided to rent this game ( Not the kind of game to rent, but to buy ) and try it out. Why did I rent it? Because Portal 2 wasn't there and I knew RAGE had a problem with PS3, so I took my chances, and the texture popping... isn't that bad. I actually don't mind it, in-fact don't touch the game ( @ ID )!

The game itself is fantastic, best game I've played in awhile. I love it, especially the vehicle implement. Just great.

Your thoughts?

I've said this before and I will say it again: the more you try to look for the texture pop-ins, the more there will be.

I think it's an entertaining high-quality shooter that somehow still feels like it's missing something.

Edit: The only things that bother me is how the environment shadows are fake and that an object in a shadow just get tinted dark rather than having an actual shadow projected onto it.

Yep.

I had horrid texture pop at first, meaning that it could take like 3 seconds for the final high quality textures to kick in, and the stupid game options would crash my card if I tried going to higher cache. So I fixed it, used the config maker and now I have little to no noticeable texture pop, and the textures only slightly "pop" in the first time they are rendered, then they never pop again, they stay rendered.

Now, for me it is amazing to play this game at a smooth framerate and no texture pop, because my card is [censored]e. With the exception of Rage, every other "next-gen" game loads very slow in my machine unless I optimize them 'till they look like [censored]. Rage runs like liquid, and I get the same visuals as everyone else, just in a smaller resolution.

I've said this before and I will say it again: the more you try to look for the texture pop-ins, the more there will be.
Very true, even when I had the pop in everyone hates, I still enjoyed the game when I focused on the gameplay, rather than looking at the textures popping in.

Yeah. Another issue with sound which I don't mind is sound cracking/crackling, its truly amateur when a company releases a game with audio that does that, but its VERY rare that I hear it. Its usually when I earn a trophy.

EDIT - While writing this I spilt ovaltine all over my [censored] desk...):

The main problem on the PS3 version is lack of memory, look at a place and look away then back, and textures will reload back in
