Objects no longer create at mouse.

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 5:10 pm

This weird problem started yesterday where when I click and drag a reference into the object window to play it in the world, they no longer create where my mouse is. Instead them create where it is on the screen, but only about a foot from my camera. I think have to drag it all the way down to where it is. It adds like 2-5 seconds to EACH object I place, and I'm designing exteriors and interiors with hundreds, if not thousands of objects, so it's severely slowly down my workpace.

I check and unchecked the 'Create Refs at Drop Target' option repeatedly but it doesn't change anything. This is incredibly annoying, and seriously slowing me down. Does anyone have an ideas as to what might be going on here? It's as if there is an invisible mesh right in front of my camera at all times... It happens everywhere. Interiors, exteriors, no matter where I place my camera. I need to get this fixed ASAP...

Thanks for any ideas,
AJV

Note: If I copy and paste an object (Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V) it appears at my mouse just like it should. This allows me to circumvent this problem if I'm placing a single object a lot, but for newly placed references they still appear at weird ranges between the mouse and my camera...

No ideas?

Only time i had a problem like that is when i have FX models in my cells, and happen to hover my mouse over the HUGE selection area those things have.
Could it be anything like that you've run into?

Unfortunately not. You are correct that since FX take up a large volume they interfere with placement (Mainly during navmeshing), but this happens no matter where I am. Even brand new places with no FX at all.

I have had that problem in the past and had it go away when I restart the CK. I have never been able to figure out why. It might be one of those odd key sequences they use.

Maybe something in the SkyrimEditorPrefs.ini? Back it up somewhere then delete it. Let the CK make a new one, then see.

I've restarted several times, and it persists. :/

Just tried that and it still does it... Though, it does appear that it's creating them a certain distance off the ground now, not exactly right at my camera, it was just zoomed in closer. If my camera is 50 ft in the air, and I try to place a rock, it's about 15ft above ground along the axis from my camera to my cursor's location.

Also, it appears to mostly be happening in one exterior area... Can anyone think of something that could have happened there? I went to several other interiors and it didn't occur. But in these few exterior cells it does it for no reason... There is nothing blocking them, no collisions (with F4), no fog or FX or water. Nothing... I've finished most of the area (It took forever...), so as long as it doesn't happen anywhere else I guess it isn't really a problem anymore. But it sure is weird...

Alex, you are probably going to say yes to this, but did you hit apply after you checked the box for Create Refs At Drop Target? Just asking. :)

Yeah. :( I tried with that checked, without it checked, everything.

It only happens in this one exterior area. So I haven't a clue what's going on... There is some kind of a giant invisible collision or something.
