Obscure Gaming technology?

Post » Mon Nov 18, 2013 10:24 pm

I learnt today that there apparently was an Online Adapter to the SNES and Sega Genesis called the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBAND

How had I never heard of this before? I grew up with the SNES and would have loved to play Mario Kart with some friends online..
then again, i was on Dial-up at the time... So i probably wouldn't have gotten much gaming done over the internet anyways.

what are some Obscure pieces of gaming Technology you know of, that others may not be aware of?

Almost everyone was on a dial-up back then, so that's what multiplayer games were designed to function on :)

(Granted, SNES and Genesis games weren't designed with a third party peripheral like this in mind.)

I played Doom on-line several times with minimal lag, although I'll admit I preferred playing on a LAN or other internal network, since those were generally far simpler once set up.

I remember the Sega Master System had a hidden maze game that worked without no cartridge. One had to press many times the button on the console until you enable the hidden mini game. I never knew until a friend told me about it. I think this is not what the thread is about but I just wanted to share that. ^ ^

First the 3DO is a game console almost no one has heard of. Or at least people I know =) And as for newer items. And I apologize if I name it incorrectly but a retro gaming console of some sort I saw in a game store a while back apparently is one console that can hook up any two controllers from sega Nintendo and SNES and also all these cartridge types =) one set of cables and wires.

Few people seem to be aware that the Playstation Eyetoy was a thing. It was pretty much Kinect, but not popular.
