Obsidian Entertainment and our legendary game designers Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer are excited to bring you a new role-playing game for the PC. Project Eternity (working title) pays homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.

We talked a lot about the genre and to be honest we kept on coming back to fantasy. With all the experience we have had with a lot of varied fantasy settings, we are really looking for to taking our unique approach with factions, characters and mature themes to the setting. Ultimately, we really feel that what an RPG is about is the characters and the story – not the setting.

If the Kickstarter succeeds, this will be a franchise. "It means we FINALLY have a world of our own that we can build upon, not just for this title but for future releases down the line. We've wanted to do our own RPG world for a long, long time, and it's been hard to pursue outside of existing franchises. Project: Eternity is our chance to take all the RPG knowledge, mechanics, lore, and characterization we've learned over the years and turn it into the game our fans have been hungering for."
Coming to PC, Mac and Linux, on Steam and GOG. You can get a copy for $25. Boxed copies are also available.

Only a day left, and it's in the middle of a spike. The 3.5 million stretch goal (a second big city) seems possible.

We'll hit 3.5 million no problem. I predict we'll do it alone on kickstarter and the paypal stuff as just a bonus.

They've been playing it really smart. Constant project updates, videos, cool pledge add-ons, interesting stretch goals and that nice picture which visualizes the progress towards them, concept art, the first screenshot, lots of indepth information regarding the lore, interviews with all sorts of websites including rather small ones...That's how you grab people.

I'm pretty late for the party, but I'm definitely going to follow this project from now on. I've been wanting a game like this, and this is now my favorite Kickstarter project. :hehe:

Yeah, I've seen other kickstarters sort of trail off. I've enjoyed the way that they managed this one. Still not sure if they can reach the 3.5 but it is not looking pretty likely. I hope they do too. The game has gotten me pretty interested, not many games actually do that these days sadly. I'm also pretty glad that this game will be avaliable on GOG.

only $130,000 to go (counting last known 87k of paypal) if they can keep up today's pace we should have our second big city :)

I made my pledge today got a vacated early backer $20 spot and added another $20 for the expansion add on.

hopefully there are a lot more lurkers like me that waited until the last minute to throw down their money... now to wait impatiently for them to finish it!

Check out the Reddit AMA by Chris Avellone, Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/11iox8/we_are_chris_avellone_tim_cain_and_josh_sawyer/

Some interesting questions and answers there.

I so want to watch them play D&D live tonight, but they start at 3am where I live and I have a huge test at 8am

But it's really interesting to see if they reach their final stretch goal. I'm still a bit pessimistic but it isn't unrealistic at all.
