Obsidian Entertainment making Elder Scrolls Game.

Post » Mon Jul 23, 2012 1:40 pm

I wonder is there any such likely hood of Obsidian entertainment making a Elder Scrolls Spin off game like they did with Fallout.
Obsidian are among the best in the industry when it comes to story. And Bethesda would be fools not to allow them to make a Elder Scrolls game. Even though their games are quite buggy their games are excellent especially with Christ avellone on board who wrote the storys for classics such as PlaneScape Torment and Ice wind dale.

If it where to happen. Where do you think would set the game?

they could make it during the waitt for Tes 6 for maybe late 2014?.

Why not let Bethesda work on it but let Obsidian story writer work on the story?

Don't think that would happen. I'd rather have a full Obsidian spin off made by them even if its unbelievably buggy.

It doesn't matter who works on it , Bethesda or Obsidian , when it releases it'll still be half the game we paid for as usual regardless of who made it.

Maybe for the pc but it won't be fair to the console, they can't bypass bug through console command and community patch.

No that's Bethesda your thinking of. They make slightly retweaked games with a whole lot of new dull and boring content with 3 years+ development time. Obsidian makes a game in 1 year that has 3 times the quests of Fallout 3 most of which have choices/multiple outcomes, gambling minigames, traits, factions and new faction mechanics, a whole lot of dialogue and interesting characters, a main quest that can be completed on 4 different sides, balanced weapons, balanced skills, balanced stats and the best damn dlc's ever made.

I wish a developer would come along and rival Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series. I think having another "Elder Scroll" type game would make Bethesda have to really work hard to stay on top. We'd get a better Elder Scroll game and maybe even another open RPG like ES that's as good.

From what I hear of Obsidian games - I've never played one personally - the writing may be good, but the world would be far inferior to Bethesda's. At the end of the day, the magnificent worlds are at the centre of TES games ... A well-written game with a sub-par world wouldn't be a TES game, as far as I'm concerned.

Not to mention that Obsidian aren't familiar with TES mechanics, lore or anything else. I'd much rather a Bethesda-made TES VI to an Obsidian one - in fact, I likely wouldn't even buy the latter.

If they do make one. I think the most likely place they would head to is one of the Akaviri nations , i bet obsidian would really flesh out Tosh raka as the antagonist and bring out Akaviri lore.

Imagine Obsidian had 3 years to complete FO NV instead of one... What would the game be like?

They were supposed to be working on a Wheel of Time RPG but there is so little info on it I don't know if it will ever happen. If they are working on it then I don't see them having the time or manpower to do a Tes spinoff considering they did have layoffs not long ago.

A couple of links if you are interested:

A game six times the amount of content of Fallout 3. With superior writing, and actual non stale characters.
