Obsidian, Fallout and the future....

Post » Thu Feb 04, 2016 2:30 am

This topic reoccurs constantly, so why not.

Where ever you go in the internet that has talks about Fallout, there is a plea for another Obsidian iteration of the series, so it's a relevant topic to keep rolling.

There's a shoddy poll up there with some pointers for what ever discussion might occur. I think one the bigger questions about this is where should they go with it if given the chance. More of the same that we have already (Fallout 3, 4, New Vegas)? A further (than NV) step back towards the roots of the series through rethinking the gameplay and overall design and how to still provide for both sides? A heavier step back towards the roots of the series given that now there's a proven market for such games? Something else entirely?

If something like that ever happens it'll not be a numbered part of the series anyway, so it shouldn't matter whether or not it resembles what Bethesda does, and more over, variety might decrease [censored] talking and the "against" mentality. And in any case, if it does end up happening, it is still years away. So, should Obsidian do another Fallout game and what kind of game should that be? If not, why not?

Fight Discuss.

I enjoyed New Vegas quite a lot and would love for Obsidian to get more fallout games. That being said I have heard that some of the folks at Obsidian who made the game have gone on to other companies so I think that's important to keep in mind. If I could have my way I would like to see the US split in roughly the middle with Obsidian doing west coast fallouts with classic lore and Bethesda doing east coast fallouts with the new lore. They could alternate games. Also just as an aside it would be awesome for this thread to go without people arguing. Both companies are good.

You jinxed it :hehe:

In an alternate universe, Bethesda didn't buy the license, and a kickstarter funded modernized classic style Fallout has been recently released. I would really like to play that game ^_^

Meanwhile, in this reality, i guess another New Vegas is the best we can hope for

While FO/NV is my least favorite of the franchise, I still enjoyed it immensely after I had added mods to make the war between the NCR and Legion feel like a real war.

So yes, I would love to see Obsidian take another crack at a Fallout.

I choose 'Mixture' for the second question since I believe that is what FONV was. I also want to see Obsidian stick with the West Coast while Bethesda works the East Coast.

I would love to see a story that allows the Player, based on faction choice (Not Enclave!), to either defend Shady Sands or raze it to the ground. I want to see the NCR in real crisis.

As I said in another thread:

The only thing better than Fallout, is more Fallout.

The last thread on the subject got ugly. For now, take a rest on the subject.
