Odd Habits

Post » Fri Jun 21, 2013 9:35 am

Do you have any strange habits, or just things that you do that isn't exactly a normal habit?

I have this strange habit of walking on my toes, like Khajiit in Morrowind (minus the steange walking animation; Morrowind Khajiit are not flat-footed like their Oblivion/Skyrim cousins). I think I may have gotten this habit when I was a toddler, where all the cupboards are high up out of reach.

I still do it, though there's not much reason. I've been called a lot of names for it, too, and everyone IRL always asks me, "Why do you do that?" Depending on my mood, I either answer, "I don't know, it's just a habit", "It keeps me fit" or "So that I can kick your ass to the moon for asking such a dumb question".

Yeah, I do that when I'm in bare-feet quite often and without realising it.

Also can't stand to have the volume on a number that isn't a multiple of 2 or 5.

What?! I thought I was the only one! :D

I also have to have my volume on a multiple of five, for some odd reason.

i bite my nails, unfortunately, but i guess that isn't odd. i'm trying to get out of it also

i can be quite OCD too, in a way that it irks me if something isn't in its right 'place' (e.g a lampshade isn't straight, the curtain it sticking out etc). it's not extreme though, a colleage of mine would get freaked out if you moved his pens (his blue/black ones on that side <, his red ones on that side >, and their lids had to be facing inwards toward each other like ><), or if you asked him for a piece of chewing gum he'd be like 'well... will you have 2?' (would only remove them 2 at a time so there was always an even number). That got quite funny, if you insisted that you only wanted one :D

i like to meticulously plan things, and order things. i like being given a lot of 'something' to do and figuring out a way to make it easy to sort through. i guess that might be kind've odd.

edit: not sure if it counts as a habit as such but it is particularly irritating (to myself, and others too probably).. my attention-span can be ridiculously low, and I can't help it. the worst is when someone asks me a question and sometimes I'll be replying and then stop in the middle of my sentence and say 'sorry, what was I saying?', cause my brain had thought too far ahead. ;@

I have OCD, so yes... I don't want to talk about all of it, but a lot of them involve doing certain things repeatedly even though it makes no difference, like going to the bathroom and wash your hand 4-5 times before you're done- same goes with brushing your teeth. Doing it one more time wouldn't hurt, right? I also make sure that furniture and objects aren't positioned wrongly and review pages and information multiple times even if I got it right the first time, only do repeat the process 15 minutes later again. I tend to do that when I watch anime and movies as well. Sometimes I spend many minutes rewatching the same scene just because I feel like I read a word wrong. I also like editing my forum posts.

It's really stressful, but I was worse earlier, so I've improved a little.

I walk like that too when I'm barefoot if the floor is cold/dirty.

I don't think I have any other odd habits... unless my habit of saving way too often in games counts. Like every few minutes often.

Yeah, I was like that as a kid as well, but I'm not sure whether it got better or worse from there. I know that it has gotten better now though, and for that I am happy.

I like to peel graqes of all their skin before i devour the flesh of them.

It's not that I can't eat the skin, I can, I just think it tastes way better when they're all soft and squishy and unprotected.

It's not just when I'm barefoot that I walk on my toes. I do it almost all the time. In fact, my shoes have that silly Disney character-esque curve at the toes because of it. :P

That's weird. Anyways, I don't really have any weird habits, I just say wildly innapropriate things at the worst possible times. It's pretty entertaining.

Would cannibalism be considered an "odd habit"?

You're only damaging yourself. quit it now or you'll regret it when you're old. i know a guy who used to do that and now he uses special shoes to get anywhere. he cant walk without feeling pain in his legs. it [censored]s up your spine and your back.

I play with lighters, pens, or other small cylindrical-like objects in between my fingers and twirl/spin them in between my fingers doing "tricks".

The thing about it is that I can't help not doing it.

the thing is most heels aren't so steep you're literally on your toes. those that wear high heels usually don't wear ones so steep, or at least not on a daily basis. (steepness is not how high they are btw)

for example, sarah jessica parker wore steep heels every day, and is suffering for it now.

Yeah, I'm starting to get joint pains for unknown reasons. But I like how awesome and firm my legs are! :o

then do exercise instead. better than being in pain. even simple exercises such as going up on your toes and then back down slowly repeated every day will keep your legs firm.

I'm doing that at the moment as I have moisturising cream on my heels: our shower's broken and my daily bath makes them dry out (dunno why they're affected much worse than anywhere else though.) I suppose that's not really an odd habit; I've probably habituated to my own peculiarities. I could ask my gf, but she'd probably just go on about how annoying I am.

My daughter does that when she dances around, she looks like a little ballerina. I actually do it too but to gain higher vantage points, I have a size 13usa foot so when I do that I get about 7 inches lift that allows me to see over obstacles like people.

I close doors behind me in games. That habbit started in a game I barely remember, but the doors had good sound and I could hear them open if something was sneaking up on me.

Darn! I knew someone would find out what people called me! :swear:

I do it to get a better view as well, except that I'm less sucessful. :( I also try and close doors behind me in games when the context is right (i.e. Murdering someone in Skyrim). I normally leave them open to mark places I've already been.

I have been getting better with walking, though. I've been doing it less often nowadays, and I do go on half-hour walks almost every day with none of it involving toe-walking. :)

I've played games where doors auto close, so I get into habit of making land mark checks. I still find it impossible to do that in Minecraft caves though. I usually end up having to start digging up.
