Official ESO Payment thread #2
This thread is for the discussion of the payment plan being used for the Elderscrolls Online, so that we can keep all discussion in one series of threads.

All other F2P, B2P, payment, subscription, etc, threads will be locked and directed here. Including polls.

Everyone has different opinions on this payment plan and how it will affect the game, and everyone has a right to express their opinion here. This means some of you are going to disagree with each other on some things. Accept that and be polite, or don't bother posting.

Discussions dwelling on Guild Wars 2, WoW, Blizzard games, or any other MMOs are considered off topic. Points can be mentioned, but do not debate the games on their own. If anyone wants to discuss the payment systems for other games in detail, it belongs in the Community Discussion forum, not ESO.

These threads will be moderated closely.
Do your part to report any problems that arise, instead of adding to the problem in the thread.

$15 a month is cheap entertainment. Probably be less with multi-month purchases.

I absolutely love paying $15 dollars (USD) a month for subscription based MMO video games and I do not want to see any cash shops in the monthly subscription based MMO video games I play at all I am so used to paying $15 dollars (USD) a month for monthly subscription based MMO video games I have been paying for them to purchase time for my accounts since 2002 and 2004 every single month of the year for EVE Online and World of Warcraft for EVE Online I purchase time for 3 accounts per month and for World of Warcraft I purchase time for 3 accounts per month as well.

So yes ZeniMax Online Studios stick with $15 dollars (USD) a month for The Elder Scrolls: Online and you will keep me happy and playing The Elder Scrolls: Online for years to come if The Elder Scrolls: Online goes Free to Play (F2P) you will lose me as a customer forever.

For $15 dollars (USD) ZeniMax Online Studios will provide a whole lot of content every 4 weeks to 6 weeks which in return is a great deal if you ask me unlike Free to Play (F2P) MMO video games where you can spend over $300 dollars (USD) a month just on cash shops like purchasing armor, weapons, experience points (EXP), etc.

All I know is since I am purchasing 5 physical boxed versions of the PC version of The Elder Scrolls: Online and another 15 physical boxed versions within 5 years time but I will only be purchasing time for 5 accounts per month only though I will be so heartbroken if I see I spent that much money every single month purchasing time for The Elder Scrolls: Online for 5 accounts then suddenly see it got Free to Play (F2P).

Game will be P2P. Zenimax won't change it.

All of these business decisions are changeable.

If Zenimax began losing subscribers, they'd ditch the sub fee in a heartbeat.

A business is out to make money - they're going to do whatever it takes to do that. I suggest you talk to a business major if you doubt me.

Nope, they will release the game as P2P.

What is releases as, and what it becomes later are two entirely different things.

I don't believe this game will last 30 years as P2P, I'm not dumb.

If it can last 10 years as a P2P game, then it'll be considered a success, hell if it lasts 5 years it still could be. No game since WoW has lasted more than 2 and a half years.

Which makes you (figuratively) wonder, if no game since WoW has lasted more than 2 and a half years in a full on PTP system, what Zenimax believes they've done to change that. You can hope that it will last more than 2 and a half years, but I can't see that in the MMO's current state.

Called, hope.

Most of the game that have failed as P2P MMOs were basically carbon copies of WoW. ESO is not a copy of WoW in basically any form. The only thing they share is that they are both MMOs and that's it.

I agree fully. I don't think we can ignore the current MMORPG market - and what it has become since WoW

The problem with WoW clones and ESO, is that the game concept's are more or less the same. They are executed differently but are still the same. The reason they are the same is because they are proven to work. Why risk creating a unique concept, when you can you the one that works and change it a little bit.

Because having Raiding and PvP is following the same formula....

Besides being an MMO there is hardly anything the same about ESO and WoW.

I see this debate as to how do you want zenimax to make money on this game.

B2p:
will focus the development of new content on the cash shop as that is were the money is. Some of the revenue will go into new content but the majority will be aimed at getting players to spend money in the shop. access to some content goes to those that spend the money.

P2p:
The revenue comes from a subscription. Most of the money they are getting will be used to develop more content. Everyone will have equal access to the new content.

I feel that the p2p option is better for the gamer and creates a level playing field that gives all gamers an equal chance to expirence the game as they want to with the level of effort they want to put in.

The monthly subscription pay to pay business model is a whole lot better to me you pay every month $15 dollars (USD) and you get everything for free everyone gets equal access to everything. If you cannot afford to pay $15 dollars (USD) for that month then I am sorry :/ stop buying fast food from fast food restaurants every week or if you just can't play a bunch of hours don't buy this video game then.

Me I work 9 hours a day and play for only 4 hours to 5 hours per day but on the weekends I can play all day if I want to and on vacations and holidays I can play all day as well if I want to. Unless I go outside to hang out with my real life friends.

It's not so much that people can't afford the 15$ a month, it's more that they don't feel it will entertain them compared to other games out there, and be a burden to play for those who have a busy schedule.
