Old Cartoons From Your Childhood

Post » Sun Oct 21, 2012 1:16 pm

Just a random topic about cartoons that you used to like as a child. I just brought it up because I stumbled across a few old classics on YouTube and, despite my age, I watched them for like a day - they just bring back such good memories. So, anyone here have some old cartoons you loved as a child and possibly still love? For me, it has to be Courage the Cowardly Dog. That show was just messed up. It was like a horror movie for 6 year-old kids. Loved it!

Courage the Cowardly Dog and Samurai Jack were the best.

Those superhero movies from the 90's were top notch. The Batman one, Spiderman, X-men, etc.

I remember Tom & Jerry was a regular favourite. Though I sometimes found myself wishing it wasn't always Tom who ended up being hideously injured...

Courage the Cowardly Dog, Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls and Spongebob Squarepants come to mind. I don't know if they would classify as cartoons, but I also really dug Sailor Moon, Card Captors,Yu-Gi-Oh! and DragonBall(Z).

Good times...good times...

Not a cartoon but if you've never seen http://www.hulu.com/lancelot-link-secret-chimp you may (or may not) owe it to yourself to check out a few episodes.
It was/is fairly hilarious.

I watched the first episode of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFIqSvzIY8Y again today. The clash of nostalgic bliss and the horribly cheesy cartoon was...interesting. I can't believe I was sincerely entertained by this.

Otherwise I was mostly a Nickelodeon kid. Anything on there in the mid-90s I watched. Then there were a couple Cartoon Network shows I loved but didn't get to see as often, like Dexter's Lab and (especially) Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy.

Ren and Stimpy without a doubt were from my childhood. Duck Tales, Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers, Dark Wing Duck, Rug Rats, AHHHH!!! Real Monsters, and such definitely go along with Ren and Stimpy. Just glad there are a "few" good cartoons for kids to grow up with like Avatar, and Symbionic Titan (atleast before that ST got canceled).

Oh, and besides Courage? The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog (the light-hearted series, not to be confused with the other one at the same time or Underground or X) was awesome too!

Used to watch Pokemon (when there was just 150 of them!) and some Digimon (first season, maybe as far as the second season too).

Then there's donald duck and tom and jerry. Must've been some more, but those are the early days cartoons I remember.

Bugs bunny and the flintstones were my favorites.

I can't believe all you young whippersnappers who think ren and stimpy and courage are old.

Hmm, I did love me some Tom and Jerry hijinks too.

The Spiderman cartoon from the nineties, and the X-Men one which may have been a bit earlier.

I also loved the first season of Digimon and Pokemon but never watched the later ones.

I enjoyed Cardcaptors, the heavily butchered translation of Cardcaptor Sakura, but then I never noticed the butchery at the time and still enjoyed the character interactions that hadn't been completely cut by the apparently culturally shellshocked and terrified translators.

I don't even remember the name of some of the old cartoons I remember from my childhood anymore. I remember the channel FoxKids and Cartoon Network were my main source of cartoons back when I was a kid. If you guys are able to recognize some of these cartoon I didn't name, you guys are awesome.

- Life with Louie (awesome show)
- Some anime version of Peter Pan
- A cartoon about some animals competing by doing some quest for some lion. They had their own cars and [censored], and the one who fullfilled the quest first won. I have no idea what the show was called, and I didn't particularly enjoy it that much, but it brings back memories...
- A cartoon about a pirate accompanied by some rat guy.
- The Super Mario Bros Super Show!
- Duck Tales
- Pokemon
- Digimon
- A fantasy cartoon about some magical talking book.
- Dexter's Laboratory
- Powerpuff Girls
- Ed, Edd n Eddy
- Johnny Bravo
- Recess
- Dave The Barbarian (this one is more recent, but I still found it hilarious for being a kid's show)

There are plenty of other series, but these are some that comes to mind. I really loved some of the more recent ones like Ed, Edd n Eddy and Cartoon Network cartoons, but I also enjoyed the older ones I mentioned that I couldn't name.

YES.

I hounded my mom to put that big Optimus Primal toy on layaway. The one that makes sound and lights up and all that awesome jazz.

Yes!

I used to love that show when I was a kid. I have no idea whether it actually was any good or not though, if I were to watch it again now.

The 90's spiderman was interesting on Foxkids due to the artstyle mixed in with 3D animations. Do agree that CC was butchered heavily, and the same could be said for Tenchi Muyo when it ran on Toonami back during the 90s. Buying the uncensored version of Tenchi Muyo was like my...right of passage I guess you could say, into the world of Anime. Still remember Toonami's refusal to show episode 19 of Outlaw Star, the infamous Hotsprings of Planet Tenrei episode.

I'm extremely old so the cartoons I watched were from when dinosaurs roamed the earth. ;) Stuff like Space Ghost, The Banana Splits, all the Hanna Barbera ones, Johnny Quest, Jetsons, Scooby Doo, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Star Trek (the animated series), plus the ageless Warner Brothers cartoons.

I'm sure you're old enough to remember black & white telly! I know I am...

You had to wait until the tubes/valves warmed up before the picture would come on...and the smell !
Rabbit ears antennae... "What the heck is a cable?"
...and when the channel changer got worn out, we used to fold up a matchbook and jam it behind it so it would stay on the channel...

Yes I remember.

Alas, Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be...

Any modern animator studied the masters at WB at one time or another...Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Fritz Freleng, Chuck Jones...and others...
They were to cartooning what Alfred Hitchcock was to suspense...the masters of the Golden Age.
