Old unused Daggerfall cinematics

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 4:19 am

I asked about this a few months ago, but I'm still curious so I figured I'd give this question another try. If you look at the old press release screenshots Bethesda released when talking about Daggerfall (you can see them http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:DAGGERFALL_Screen_Shots/Previews), there were a few which were stills of prerendered 3D cutscenes.

The two in particular are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:DF-SS-Army.gif and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:DF-SS-Camaron.gif (is that Richard Garriott?). As I understand it, they were a part of this promotional cutscene that played at the Consumer Electronics Show in 1995 (or 1996?) to hype the game. Unfortunately they aren't in the actual game, and I don't know if the cutscenes still exist somewhere.

Do any of you older Daggerfall players remember anything about them?

I think the battle was supposed to be at Cryngaine Field, perhaps shown as an opener to the game.

Yeah. I'm guessing those are the armies of Sentinel and Daggerfall, and Camoran is preparing for his duel with Gothryd or something. The armies of perfectly-identical soldiers look like the model the guard sprites were rendered from. :P

...Oh, dear, I can imagine what that battle sounded like then. And I thought it was bad when I'm being chased just by a handful of guards. <_<

Ooohh...That's a blast from the past. I worked on some of those scenes.....

Blimey....

LOTS of stories from that one!

Might get in a wee bit of trouble though if I said too much.

Camron is obviously Julian LeFay, and the swords mine. It's on the wall as I type this.

Would it be some breach of conduct (or, I suppose, of your own preference) to give us a better look at said sword? It'd be nice in a lore-geeky way to find out what King Camaron's sword "officially" looks like.

Hi Mark! I emailed you months ago about a certain unused Daggerfall box art design, but photos of King Camron's elusive sword ought to prove sufficient as well. :whisper:

Great to have you around the Past TES forums, too. You always have some interesting stories to tell.

Day 1(5)

Made it past the bats. Then an imp blew me up.

Day 1(6)

Made it pasts the bats, ignored the imp. Some guy in a hood killed me.

Day 1(7)

Right, forgot about the imp.

Day 1(23)

Made it out of the hold. Now, lets take a look at the world map and see where to go ne-- #*@&!

Day 1(77)

Got my first quest! I travelled to some fort to kill harpeies. At least thats where i think im going. ive been walking in circles at its location for some time now, and see nothing...

Day 1(78)

Oh I see, i turned in the wrong direction initially. Note: entrances to places may be in a random direction and may not be visible from the zone-in point. Also I no longer have money. Damnable Inn.

day 1(85) F****** harpies!

...And so on and so forth.

Ok, scroll down a bit on this page:

It's a youtube video, but I thought I'd give a little credit to the person who provided it.

Nice to see that people like the videos from my archives
(Hellfire2079 = Halllfiry = Idrachod2)

About the Daggerfall covers mentioned somewhere above....
There are millions
Don't take the dates too serious, they are just for rough orientation and some are just guessed. (I'm the Blizzard historian, not Bethesda archivist  )

Has anyone read my Arena development stuff at betaarchive? (ignore all typos <.<)
