Older hardware performance. Thank you Bethesda

I know a lot of people are having problems with Skyrim having low FPS on some of the higher end cards and I do hope that gets sorted soon. It's obvious something weird is going on with that.

But this is no simple console port and calling it one is not only unfair but completely wrong. They optimized the living s**t out of this game for the PC. on a system with an ATI Radeon 3500 with a 2.0ghz processor I can run this game at near ultra settings with a near constant 50-60 FPS. AA off and shadows at medium or high and I was good to go. It looks and runs so good on this antique of a PC that I had to pinch myself and make sure I wasn't dreaming. I've never gotten a game to look this good on this machine before. I can't even run Oblivion on comparable settings if that gives you an idea.

In all honesty my machine should have no business even playing this game, and before Skyrim came out I was a bit depressed knowing that best case scenario I would probably have to turn all the settings down to minimum to even play it, worst case scenario...it wouldn't play it at all. Last heavy hitting game I tried on this card was The Witcher 2, I think I got a good solid 5 FPS with all settings turned down to minimum. Don't even remind me of the hell that was GTA 4 either...ugh.

But not only does Skyrim play, it plays great, and it looks amazing. So yeah, thank you Bethesda for being aware of that thin line between performance and quality and giving us a AAA game that even people without top of the line hardware can enjoy. You earned a fan with that kind of consideration.

Yes, I have a three-year-old Dell with mediocre stats but I'm having no trouble running Skyrim. I'll have to tweak it a little to see if I can have shadows comparable to the OP's experience, and the game looks a little monochrome, but it's probably my PC rather than the game. Thanks again, Bethesda, for "Skyrim".

Same here - I'm running it on a 5 yr old XPS 600 - new card GTS450. I was very worried but it is running on high and looks great.

I totally agree. I was planning on going out and getting a GTX 560 TI, to upgrade my current 250 GTS video card, but then I put it on Ultra at 1920x1080, and it runs smooth as butter.

Just saved myself $300. Thanks Bethesda!

I'm running Skyrim on what could hardly be called a "gaming" PC, and its still enjoyable despite the crappy frame-rate

I bought it on the 360 as I was afraid my laptop wouldn't be able to run it any higher than low-medium settings (as previous Beth games were notoriously unoptimized), but from the sounds of it Skyrim should run fine at decent settings for me. While I'm enjoying it on the 360, I'll likely pick it up on the PC as well when the price drops a bit to experience the mods.

I am very pleased with my graphic level, have a 3 year old rig with: 2.4 ghz quad, 8800 GTX and 3Gig ram. I'm playing it on (highest) medium settings and i'm having very good frame rate even in crowded places.

Running on a MSI K9A2 CF + AMD Athlon II x2 5600 + GeCube Radeon 3870 512Mb + 4GB OCZ DDR2, using default low settings + higher fades @ 1920x1080, runs buttery smooth. Will try what happens at medium. Maybe I can even run high on a lower resolution.

Yes...and resolution. Because while I'm playing it nicely on a middling PC, I should be able to run it better than him.

This is good to know. I have an older PC that's just above the minimum requirements.

I like hearing things like this since I have a PC that the PC elitists who seem to think they represent all PC users would laugh at, and yet it looks like it will run Skyrim fairly well.

Really now? If that's the case, I may end up getting this for PC instead of waiting for my 360 to get fixed. My laptop barely meets the minimum requirements, but by the sound of it, it should run fine from what you all are saying.

I'm guessing a cause of a lot of issues is that people are running PCs that are too advanced for Skyrim.
