When you first download it, you're like, oh cool! Vampires awesome. Yeah!

But when you take a nap in a town and wake up to find everybody you knew has been slaughtered by vampires, thralls, and hellhounds, it's really upsetting!

Do the NPC's respawn now? I don't think they do. I was getting ready to start a quest with someone in Whiterun and a vampire came up as I was talking to him and stuck a sword through his spinal cord.

I like everything I've seen so far, but these random attacks are not fun, they're just irritating.

I've wanted to get the normal Skyrim main quest and faction quests out of the way.

With that said, do I have to complete the entire Dawnguard quest to stop the random attacks, or just talk to the leader of Dawnguard?

Please let me know. I'm sick of looking at the ash piles in the middle of the city.

so far i know the random attacks lessen through out game play for me i finished the quest for it

NPCs do not respawn I have a thread right now on this in the Dawnguard cheats, hints, spoilers section.

I've been fortunate enough to not have full town massacres but this is a common issue angering alot of people. I've only come across the mysterious traveler a couple times.

I have never met the mysterious traveler. What does he do exactly?

It's a hooded figure standing at the edge of a town during the night. Just standing there not doing anything. When you walk up to them to interact they drop their hood, start screaming, summon gargoyles, death hounds, etc, and they begin attacking you. It can get messy.
