one-handed AND two-handed?

Post » Sat Nov 10, 2012 11:54 pm

I'm not new to Elder Scrolls, or Skyrim. Been playing since Morrowind and got the last 2 games on release day, but in Skyrim I've never made a character that can effectively use 2-handed weapons, 1-handed weapons, dual-wield, and sword and shield all on the same character. I find that between Smithing, an armor skill, and archery(which is pretty much necessary in Skyrim) that it just stretches too thin. Am I just trying to put too much into one Dovahkiin or is there an effective way to do this?

PS: I am, however, new to the gamesas Forums. I've read them for a while but, just starting to post, so I'm trying to figure this all out still, sorry if I'm a bit slow to respond.

Actually, my latest character is 100 in all of the Warrior skills - Heavy and light armor, one and two handed, blocking and archery. I've chosen perks in all of those, emphasizing dual wielding and archery, and also put lots and lots of perks into alchemy, enchanting and smithing.

If you want to max out on all the warrior perks, I think you can. I don't really see the point, though - maxing perks in both heavy AND light armor wouldn't make sense, since you can get light armor that will provide the same effective protection as heavy (since armor protection maxes out at 567 or 576, I forget which.)

You are.

There are 81 perks. There's over 90 perks for pure-combat alone. You're not going to make a character who can effctively use all weapon combinations. It's just that simple. Specialize in one and go from there.

archery(which is pretty much necessary in Skyrim)
I guess it depends on how you play and what difficulty you play on. I play on Adept. I've never done archery on any of the six level 50+ characters I've played so far. So, personally, I don't think archery is necessary at all. In fact I don't think any single skill or skill tree is 'necessary' to stay alive in Skyrim. On Adept, at least.

Well I'm not looking to get both armor skills up, but I'd like to have a Nord warrior that could use let's say a Dragonbone Battleaxe, but later on use Dual-Wielded swords and waraxes if that's what I'm feeling at the time. That sort of thing.

I generally play on expert, I just view Archery as a staple for killing dragons and other creatures that aren't in range of a shout.

I find that if you choose just one armor skill (why take heavy AND light?), only one crafting skill (smithing, if that's your flavor), and only a smattering of other perks, you can take one-handed, two-handed, and archery. That's what I'm doing on my current playthrough. Also, I'm not taking any of the weapon specialization perks (i.e. bonebreaker). Good luck raising one-handed and two-handed at the same time though. Personally, I got one-handed to 80 first, then used the ebony blade to raise two-handed, since the damage is based on one-handed skill, but it raises two-handed.
