One Handed Sword Viability

Post » Fri Sep 20, 2013 1:20 pm

Hello everyone! I have not been excepted into the beta so I had a quick question about the viability of useing a One Handed sword and an empty off hand. In all of the elder scrolls games it has been my favorite way to play and I have always liked the idea and charm of only useing a one handed sword with no shield or spell in the off hand. Thanks for the help!

Based on what we know from officially released info of gear and slots, I would say its not very viable. Do-able sure but you'll be gimping yourself by basically having an empty slot where you could have stats, damage and defense.

As in any Elder Scrolls game you have played, it is possible and not much viable

basically above. While it is possible, you're just gimping yourself with an empty hand, which hurts both yourself and the players you are playing with because you are not at the maximum strength you could be.

i'd like to see that too. maybe allow the player to equip an extra ring or something if they want to fight with an unarmed hard. I don't like fighting with just one weapon but I know people do.

Yes, only offhands you are going to see is another weapon for dual wield or a shield, its tied to weapon skill lines which are

Two Handed

Weapon and Shield

Dual Wield

Bow

Destruction staff

Restoration staff

wait. am I misunderstanding?

I was going to go for duel wielding 2 daggers, but now recently have decided I might just have dagger in right hand and spells like summoning and fire in the other hand. and your saying we cant do that?

Spells won't be in the hand like in skyrim, spells will be convayed either through your weapon or with a staff.

To be fair, this is how it was in Oblivion. You would only be disappointed if you really liked the Skyrim or Morrowind ways of things. Morrowind being my favorite game it is kind of frustrating, but think of it like this; They want everyone to be able to use everything if need be, so if you were a warrior that uses shield sword, but wanted to use a specific spell, instead of having to switch out and use it, you can just cast it through your weapon. It makes things very inconvenient, but I can see where your frustration comes from.
