One handed Xbows

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:56 am

Just saw a mod that implements them and I must say it's pretty badass idea. Still, as a modder the guy is surely limited with animations and probably other things. So would you be down with official release of these bad boys from Bethesda? Just imagine the weapon combinations you could do!

Here's a mod:

No such thing as a one-handed crossbow, really, since you always need two hands to reload. So, it's either a one-shot deal, or an immersion breaker.

You need two hands just to fire a crossbow, so this is as realistic as using a normal bow with only one hand. It might look cool, but it is hardly practical.

While you're at it please give me a lesson on how to shoot lightning out of my hands irl. It's a GAME people! We have dwemer robots in it, yet that is somehow ok, but oh no auto reloading Xbow are not. LOL!

Yes, and while we're at it why don't we attach the legs at the shoulders and arms at the hips. Because it's a GAME people. If we can shoot flames from our fingers then why not?

Why not? Because it is a game based on a fantasy world where things are still somewhat realistic but magical. So they don't shoot bows one handed and they don't shoot crossbows one handed either.
But of course, now that a thread has been created about it, Bethesda is going to go forward on this to make some more money. Yay! :bunny:

it sounds... weird. how would you reload it if your off hand is carrying something? Also i don't see it being that effective as you couldn't zoom in to aim, or swing your sword while your reloading.

Also looked at the link and the no reloading thing makes it sound like a god weapon, i just don't see it fitting in with skryim that well

Not completely true, ever seen the Sand Furies in Fable 3? They have tiny crossbows (while holding a katana in the other hand) it fires, and it is small enough to easily pull it back again with one or two fingers.

Well in the interest of breaking lore, don't really want that.. But if anything, a flintlock pistol would be my first suggestion.

This isn't diablo 3. You would need to reload that eventually.

This is an pistol sized crossbow you can fire pistols with one hand.
You can fire most weapons with one hand, including assault rifles. Yes your accuracy is terrible but doable. an bow require that you use both hands or ready it, and yes you need two hands to load it.
Main problem would be that it would be weak as it has to use an small bow and accelerate the bolt over just 10 cm. However it would be good for using magic bolts or poison.

One-Handed Crossbows are highly possible and been done in real life.. Normally, they are of smaller size and uses bolt racks instead of reloading one bolt at a time.. A bolt rack normally only has 5 - 10 bolts in it and the crossbow will shot all of these before needing to reload which is really easy to do real quick but you will need your other hand freed in some sort of way.. Now, you can have a shield and a crossbow while also still reloading just fine due to the shield is actually strapped around your arm, not carried... Therefore, your other hand will still be freed some-what..

Now, there are some really pretty bad*** crossbows that are 1-handed and are loaded with a crap load of bolts at a time but they are still pretty heavy and normally should only be used by the stronger people...

Now, since this is Skyrim and TES universe.. We could do some sort of elemental crossbows where they shoot bolts of magical power and uses enchantment power.. This way, you will never need to repair your crossbow.. Just recharge it UNLESS your "Magicka cost" is reduced by 100% due to armor enchantments.

Heh One handed Xbows could be easily done and good addition to the game. Especially if they are dwemer made, you don't have to rationalize them any further than "it's dwemer-made". Done! :D Another option is using Sphere Centurion's severed arm that is strapped to yours with leather strips or something like that. Lots of possibilities there.

Hey, crossbows in Assassin's Creed Revelations were one-handed.
And that wouldn't be hard since bolts are generally small, but the crossbow would be less powerful, and have shorter range, unless lighter bolts are used.

Because they physically make sense as magic or magical constructs. A crossbow is a physical, non-magical weapon. An auto-loading crossbow would, then, have to be magical and fire magical bolts. I don't necessarily have a problem with that, but you'd need "cast time" to replace reload time. Otherwise, you're talking about an auomatic weapon with infinite ammo, which would be, well, silly, and better left for CoD-like games.

I'd like a one-handed crossbow to pull in enemies from a distance like Batman's grapnel gun. I'd LOL.

This and also note that one-hand shot with a crossbow is extremely inaccurate.

No what we need is a dwafen made laser rifle, dwarf's already now how to focus light with lenses, like the machine with the elder scroll inside it or the Oculory.

So a laser weapon would be no problem for them to make , I have even come up with a parts list.

10 flawess diamonds (for lenses)
30 dwarfen gears
20 dwarfen ingots
08 centurion dynamo cores

This stuff will be hard to get for lower level players, but burning holes threw Dragons and vampires would be so much fun.

How can the crossbow be so easy to reload you can pull it with one or two fingers? Crossbows genereate massive ammounts of kinetic energy, not possible even in tamriel. If what you say is true than fable has created one stupid weapon, the ammount of force created by it would be equal to a rubberband slingshot.

No kidding? I guess Arnold has probably done M60"s one handed. Do you have any Youtube videos showcasing this ability, I'd love to see that. Running with an M4 in each hand would be awesome, probably kill a lot of baddies that way too. :gun:

Assault rifles and hand guns use magazines rather than individual bullets.

Cowboys used revolvers but they had to sit down behind a rock and individually place each bullet into the gun hoping the other guy doesnt pop up behind them.

You could do a multi shot crossbow, but they're not efficient. Even if it placed the next bolt in for you, for the idea of realism you'd have to pull the mechanism back just like how for a revolver you had to pull the hammer back before each shot, although with a revolver it could be done with the thumb of the hand holding the gun.

I've seen an automatic crossbow before but it was Chinese, no power, bad accuracy, and lower range. It worked more with the same idea of a shotgun where you just try to cover an area that's close in front of you.

One handed crossbow could be ok, but duel wielding it would just start to get weird to me.

I don't wish to duel wield two crossbows.. I wish to have a Crossbow in one hand and a sword in the other.

No, I don't really want to see one handed crossbows given an official release. I think archery should remain two-handed.
