One Minor Complaint Regarding the Actual Civil War Battles..

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 4:51 am

Anyone notice how there's like... 4 to 5 Stormcloak/Imperial soldiers listening to whoever's speech before you invade a city/fort/tower? I know more seem to appear once you're inside.... just seems strange. I highly doubt a handful of soldiers could take such a big city. I would put AT LEAST 20-30 outside the gates to make it more realistic.

Like I said, very minor complaint.

My only complaint is that the soldiers that are defending the city leave the front gate unlocked

The game doesn't do itself any favors on a scale of presence. Easily it's weakest point.

I doubt the game would be able to handle a large number of AI packages running in a single cell on consoles. Unfortunately, they probably had to scale that back.

The final fight of the civil war. I've only done it on the Imperial side but running ahead of the soldiers in windhelm with a broken sword I saw about ten stormcloaks each at five different points. There were about twenty or so in the Battle for Bruma. Unless you specifically mean on your side, in which case I've got no idea, the moment General Tullius gave the okay I was way ahead of my men and cutting swathes through nords.

I think it's to do with restraints of technology. Bethesda probably limited themselves on such things to make sure the game could be played on mid-range PCs, as well as consoles. One of the most common complaints I saw when looking up Morrowind reviews was 'you need a beast of a computer to play this'.

Consoles and a lot of PCs couldn't handle it unfortunately.

There's a mod for that

Which mods adds NPC's to the civil war? I know mods like Warzone. But, i didn't think that added to the civil war.

Yeah, the civil war battles feel pretty empty in comparison to the emotional high of the Bruma fight. That being said, there are some other battles in the game that feel pretty epic outside of the civil war conflict.

My favorite quests in Oblivion are the quests which feature battles - the Battle of Bruma, the Battle of the Imperial City (the end of the main quest), the Shivering Isles' many battles. I really loved those quests.

Hey, Bethesda! We need more battles! ;)
