One question (Will govern whether I get the game or not)

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 11:08 pm

Will hand to hand combat be an option? Like as a primary form of combat, not just for roleplay purposes, you know, like in ever TES before Skyrim? Because I need to have my Kahjiit clawing out them eyes.

Probably will. It would be pretty bad if it wasn't

I think you will likely be disappointed. The big feature about ESO is that you can use whatever weapon you like, regardless of your class and role. Hand to hand combat isn't a tradition MMO system of fighting and I doubt that will be any different in this game.

Probably won't be.

Though I feel your pain. The things I truly liked doing in most ES games were taken out lately.

Summoning got much weaker. Not able to summon so many.

Hand to hand got taken out.

So my Bretan hand to hand/summoner/caster is no longer possible.

I used to love walking up to a mob. Punching him and moving around. As my many pets did their job. Some boxing him. Some nuking him. Others healing me. I could either nuke him or box him some more to drain his endurance and watch my pets own him. Or stand back and heal my pets. Mocking him as my heals negated his hits.

Ah those were the days. So funny to watch.

These days I'm just a thief type who sneaks up to people and kills the mob in one shot.

I agree they probably won't have hand to hand in this game. Though I disagree with hand to hand not being a traditional MMO system of fighting  .

EQ had monks. They were great. They used martial arts and could go hand to hand or staves. They were fantastic pullers and dps. Groups used to love to have them throw stars at a group of mobs. Then feign death, targeting the one they wanted. They would call a tag. The warrior would now shoot the separated mob to the group. Excellent for when you walked into a full zone, and you need to thin them out to set up your camping spot.

I think they could also sneak past mobs. They were pretty good at using the sneak and feign death to drag your corpse back to you. You know back in the day when death cost you exp, and enough deaths could de-level you

The class was so much fun, WOW is bringing the class back in their panda upgrade. At least I think that's what people are saying. Can't quote me there as I haven't played WOW in years.

So this game may not have it, but other MMO's used them traditionally and they appear to be making come backs.

It's not entirely gone in Skyrim. You just need to get the Gloves of the Pugilist for Fortify Unarmed, then enchant a really tough pair of gauntlets and a ring, then get the Heavy Armor perk. It should do some pretty good damage.

They cared enough to have these aspects available, so I fully expect they'll do the same for TES:O.

if that is a game breaker for you i suggest you not play this game, its not going to be a single player game, its an MMO make no bones about it.
It will be different from other TES games.

I have not seen anything from an official source to say that H2H combat wont be in the game so I assume it will be. Fighting without a weapon is available in a lot of mmo's so why the hell not.

I also plan to play Khajiit (as my first toon) and use of claws is important for the roleplay perspective of Khajiit

Closest thing im thinking to hand-to-hand combat will be fist weapons. Knowing how MMO's work with loot it would seem strange for a spec to not have to acquire any weapons. Then again they could have say cuffs or something for hand-to-hand, but i doubt it.

Yep. Saw it and tried it. It was ok. Just not the same.

It's quite likely we will have fist-weapons. There is an artwork with a Khajiit wearing two kataras, which might be classified as such.
