One single change to combat is all I need

Ready to read my revolutionary 'solution?' It would solve things for me. Here it is:

When a humanoid enemy is performing their forward lunge power attack their turning speed is decreased temporarily. Limited enough for a quick player to side dodge the attack. Same applies to the player.

Imo, this would solve everything for me and I can be the nimble daredevil I was in Oblivion. Unfortunately, this would need a script to check all humanoids for the power attack / sprinting attack. Back to invisible activator adds script tokens, I guess. Was there even a vanilla function to control turning speed for Oblivion or the Fallouts?

You can already sidestep powerattacks easily. Just get the "quick reflexes" perk in the block tree. This perk slows down time when blocking an enemy powerattack so you can sidestep or even move to his back.

kinda strange that a dodge perk is granted to the block tree dont you think? leaves DW and 2H weapon behind when it is they who need to dodge out of the way most

This should be also made for non-humanoids, right now it's imposible to dodge wolves and spiders jumping attack (without using immersion breaking slow time perks that some of us didn't even consider using at least).

2H weapons can block as well so "quick reflexes" apply to them. The perk certainly doesn't apply to dual wielding though.

Now that is something i think actually needs modding, i would like some way to be able to parry, maybe even parry with either hand or both at the same time. Im sure we will see something like this in a 'deadly reflex' type mod soon as the CK is out.

I dunno what u are complaining about, u can already dodge enemies attack with alittle effort and skill. I did on my theif all the time when i played dual wield. And u want to make it even easier use slow time shout, and yes... shouts are made for using!

I've never got the logic behind them preventing dual wield blocking. I understand the technicalities, but it's counter-logical. Dual wielding in the real world was only ever used by duellists and more extensively in the far East amongst the samurai - why? - Not do deal more punishment more quickly - but as a way of parrying in a duel. A dual wielding swordsman can more easily parry and block the attacks of a person wielding only a single sword, while simultaneously being able to take advantage of openings in an enemies defence having two hands with which to strike.

Read what i just wrote and now consider Skyrim. Dual wielding is the ONLY mode of attack where parrying/blocking *is entirely impossible*

Derrrrr - this is an oversight equivalent to a modern warfare style game that depicts pistols as being used solely to pistol-whip people and they don't fire bullets like the other guns.

^ This, take a look at Sais, Hook Swords and Butterfly Knives (not the American Flip Pocket Knife kind), they have a specific design in mind to 'capture/block' enemy weapons

I had a thought how it could've been implemented!

Keep the offhand as a block function, like with a shield or 2 hander, except that "bashing" instead executes a dual attack instead of a staggering bash, and a standing power attack becomes the dual-wielding spin power attack. The block function would be eligable for fast reflexes, but not bash or shield perks. That way you still gain the benefits of parrying, but you trade off the ability to bash and stagger foes, for the ability to strike with two weapons simultaneously.

two handers would still be useful because they maintain similar damage, but retain the ability to bash. Dual wielding would remain useful because it's better for sneak attacks or enchantments.

I bet we could pull this off using SKSE and CK

What about those who use a sword and spell? I'd really like some skill-based method to dodge power attacks. As it is, it's quite impossible to play with that style on a harder difficulty, because it's nearly impossible to avoid some of the two-handed power attacks and actually still hit them with a sword - especially as it takes a lot longer to kill them than with a dual-wield. The only way is to go either pure melee or pure mage.

Good point!
And the current skill/perk system is VERY Hybrid unfriendly

If you look at it as a dodge perk. I always use it to shield bash them, interrupting their attack and sometimes disarming them. I think it was intended to be used to give you time to shield bash or raise your shield and block, ergo it is in the block tree.

This is why I wish there was still an athletics tree. Holding sprint and move sideways could make you sidestep, or make even spring around behind enemies.

Dual wielding weapon style was primarily used for parrying and trapping (disarming) opponents. And it was usually an offhand dagger.

I would like to see it perform that role more realistically.
