One thing I recently noticed about modern Elder Scrolls game

Bethesda makes the ground work, modders make the game after it is released.

To be more specific, Bethesda creates the bulk of the world, which is mostly unpolished and has a load of problems. Then the modding community makes changes Bethesda seemed to lazy to do that make the game grade A+ quality.

I just downloaded over 30 mods, most of which provide graphical changes and a few gameplay/combat changes, and the game is now at least 50% as flawed as vanilla because of sharper meshes and textures alone.

Maybe Bethesda should accept volunteers/interns from the mod community when they make Elder Scrolls VI: [insert province here], and release it when the mod community volunteers/interns deem it nearly perfect.

Granted Skyrim was amazing when i first played it on release, but now, without these mods, the game seems ugly in comparison.

This is a common criticism directed at most games that have good modding tools, and to be honest I've never been a fan of the sentiment. I do love mods, but I see them as extras rather than fixes.

Then again it really matters what you're looking for in the game and the mods. I like quest mods, but rarely use re-balancing mods and never use graphical improvement mods. Someone who really enjoys the latter is likely to find the vanilla game insufficient. Similarly, I don't tend to use lots of mods, whereas someone who does will likely find the vanilla game insufficient.

Now if I were to boot Morrowind up then yes there's a roster of mods I'd throwing in before I start playing, but I'd feel like I was playing Morrowind+, not that mods had brought it from a framework to a fully fledged game.
