One year later and I'm ready to go back to one of my favouri

This day one year ago I realised I was playing all my favourite games so much that they weren't becoming enjoyable anymore. I said I was going to leave one completely untouched for a year and then come back to it, so I'd have forgotten a lot about and it'd be more of a fresh experience. I knew I wasn't going to be able to leave my precious Elder Scrolls, so I went for Fallout 3 instead. And it worked! I abstained for a year and only have vague recollections of what the game was like. The one thing I do remember is that it was bloody awesome! So today, I can finally go back to it today and excited is not the word! :D

Has anyone else ever done something similar to this? If not, I'd strongly recommend it. During the last few weeks I've had a feeling similar to the excitement you get while waiting for a new game release.

Well, I don't plan on leaving a game or anything like that, but it has happened that I chance upon a game I haven't played in ages, and play it again just for nostalgic purposes.

I played through just the MQ of New Vegas, left it for about a year, just came back recently and I'm loving it. Just having a world to explore that's mostly new is really nice.

I sold my PS2 and around 20+ games about 4 or 5 years ago and am now rebuilding my collection. I picked up the Sly series and SoC and am loving them again.

I haven't touched Skyrim in months. Will probably end up doing the same thing youre doing with NV.

Same for both of those games for me. Havent played New Vegas and most of its DLC for a long time and i barely did any of the faction quests or the main/civil war quests for Skyrim. plus it has DLC coming out.

I got bored with a lot of my current gen games like skyrim, fallout, amalur, skyward sword, etc and dusted of my psx a few months ago. luckily i never sold any of my old games or systems so have them all at hand

I went for the lofty venture of playing all the Final Fantasy games in order from the beginning and man has it been fun.

the original I hadn't touched since i borrowed it from a friend in the early 90s so that was cool to re live the story. II and III i had never played so that was interesting and well worth the trek.

IV was always a bit of a black sheep to me and i never really enjoyed beating it, and hoped that having had a 4 or 5 year break would have reset that feeling, but it didn't and couldn't get back into it so moved on to V after about 1/4 of the story, which also only got a light dusting when it was first reissued on psx but found it to be fun but not mind blowing

I was about to put in VI last week when the itch took over and i started VII instead. I must say playing FFVII again after several years off made me really fall in love with the game all over again. having spent 100s of hours over multiple playthroughs over the years i think this game was the most burnt out game i could have played and it felt fresh again! while the graphics haven't aged well, and i was tempted to mod my PC version from way back when, there's still a charm to the simplicity of the psx version. the scenes right before the end of disc 1 felt just as emotional as the first time i saw them and i actually really hate sephiroth again haha!

I figure by the time i get through VI, and VIII-XIII i'll be ready to go back to my sandbox games with an open mind and a rekindled spirit ;) though i think i'm done with skyrim until a GOTY edition is released...

I could never get in to VIII.

If the rumors are true that VII is coming to Steam, I'll probably pick that up. Then I'll have to re-learn how to breed the golden Chocobo. :D

I bought Modern Warfare 3 on launch day. I beat the campaign, messed around in multiplayer for a bit, and then went back to Battlefield 3. About two weeks ago I picked it up again, if nothing else to just get my money's worth.

Turns out I'm really enjoying it. Granted, it is still annoying at times, and definitely not the best game I've ever played, but it is pretty good I suppose.

Recently messed around with Age of Empires. Brought back a few memories but it wasn't all that epic.

Nothing is more epic than an Age of Emps 2 campaign game with LOTR music.

I love going back to older games. I recently re-installed Rome Total War, which I played to bits in my teens but moved on to other games in the last couple of years. Having played other more challenging strategy games, it feels very easy now, but that doesn't mean I'm not having a lot of fun. Did the same with Warband a few months back after a year-long break.

I don't think I've consciously set a specific time limit and stick to it like you have, though. I lack the discipline.

I'm trying to get motivated to try Fallout New Vegas again. I played it through once, didn't enjoy it nearly as much as FO3 and didn't purchase any of the DLCs for it. The blame lays squarly with Obsidian's interpretation of it - I've logged hundreds of hours with Oblivion, Fallout 3 and now Skyrim. I like Bethesda developed games. I don't like Bethesda games farmed out to Obsidian. Keep thinking it I give it a second chance I might like it better though.

Anyone remember Galactic Battlegrounds or War of the Ring?

B-Grade RTS is better than the B-Grade any other genre.

I've been thinking of starting New Vegas again. Haven't played that in almost year.

I've never actually abstained from a game, I've just played it till I'm burnt out and gotten an urge to play it or stumbled upon it later.

You must have a terrible memory
:P Well I remember some things and it's flooding back a lot now since I started playing it again. I remembered the soundtrack, the layout of Megaton, a handful of memorable quests and the enemies. Other than that, not much. So yeah, I suppose I probably do have a terrible memory! :P

I've left games for a while so I can play others or do different things, no matter how much I loved the games though when I return they're all [censored] and I notice so much stuff wrong with them...Love is blind I see -_-

I played the first two Monkey Island games back in the early 90s, and recently downloaded them for the iPhone. It took me a while to get used to the new control systems but they are just as much fun as ever they were.

Now I have my fingers crossed for a re-release of Day of the Tentacle.

I'm also about to give FO3 another play-through. I didn't realise how long it's been since I last played, my most recent saves are dated October 2009. I think I found what's been making it unstable (a mod that's supposed to make it more stable! Good proof of concept, but it triggers another bug) and I've also applied the 4GB patch which should hopefully prevent other nasties which had put me off doing a third play-through.

Thing is, I keep getting side-tracked with buggering about tweaking this and that and seeing what mods are available instead of just playing. I managed to keep that up for years with Oblivion before I did my last play-through!

I'm still amazed that it appeals as much as it does: I'm not keen on 1950s culture, and '50s Americana in particular has never been my thing; old big band music has never done anything for me, and wandering around post-apocalytpic America sounds a bit unappetising but for some reason the combination really works. It should be horrible but it's very atmospheric.

It's been a year since I've played Amnesia so I'll be playing that again soon. It's not a very replayable game, so you really need to forget about it for a while before it's really fun to play through again.

Also I do a playthrough of Deus Ex once or twice a year.

I haven't played Morrowind in I can't remember how long. Three, four years? I'm pretty sure I've playd every other game I own at least twice since then. It's going to be awesome, or at least it should be if I can forget just a little more.

Also I do a playthrough of Deus Ex once or twice a year.
Good idea. Installing it now.
