Online FPS for PC?

Post » Mon Sep 09, 2013 7:00 am

I'm looking for an online FPS I can play that has a decent size community and is available on Steam. I don't really know too much about the current games out there but I know I don't want an Origin game so that marks out BF3. I also don't really want a COD game either as I have played several of them and I want something different.

Natural Selection 2 Is a very very fun FPS team deathmatch game.. TF2 is also fun and its free.. Counter Strike is uhhh, decent.. Planetside 2 is pay to win though it has potential.. And thats all that comes to mind.

This!

I've been playing TF2 since it came out and still find it really fun. (When people are not griefing...like teams with 6+ snipers/spies....)

It is so much fun when you get a team of like minded people who use their mics and actually try for the objectives. Can be tedious if as mentioned, a team has 6+ "spy-pers". In my opinion, 32 slot servers never need more than 2 of each (spy/sniper) class. To many and it drags the whole team down.

If you decide to give it a go, you can find me playing on HyperionGaming.org | Payload | West Coast [Stats] 66.151.138.182:27015 in the mornings and throughout the day. (P.S. <--see profile for timezone reference.)

Same name as here but with {EMC} on the end.

Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Source, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Unreal Gold, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament III (3)

Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Quake 4

Call of Duty and it's expansion pack Call of Duty: United Offensive, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War

Red Orchestra: Osfront 41-45, Red Orchestra 2: Heroes if Stalingrad

Those are all of the video games I think are good for FPS on PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II I consider broken on PC due to matchmaking and lack of dedicated servers ( Call of Duty: Black Ops II runs on dedicated servers on PC but lacks a server browser list and has matchmaking running on top of the dedicated servers) and a server browser list which is a must on PC for good online multiplayer play.

I consider Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive the 2 best versions of the Counter-Strike video games.

Counter Strike Source if you like lots of different well supported gameplay modes. Counter Strike GO if you want to play default counter strike. Team Fortress 2 is also good.

PlanetSide 2 is quite fun and I don't find it to be "pay-to-win". Obviously it helps but you can have a respectable record without spending a dollar.

I would recommend TF2 since it's free and your best bet. Stay clear of L4D2. It's a good game, but the servers are crap as people place nasty advertisemants in them. There are a few servers I've joined which played videos and they continued to play even though I had terminate the game. It's possible that valve terminated the ability to run such advertisemants in the window, can't be sure though.

Farcry 3 is decent, but it fell short for me. The beginning I liked and it felt like a struggle to survive. After 1/4 the way in, it degraded into Farcry 2 for me, before they implemented some mechanics about a month after I finished. When they implemented those mechanics, it was too little too late for me.

Borderlands 2 is a decent game, but I recommend Borderlands 1 over it. B1 has better dynamic weapon systems and the jokes are little more grittier vs B2 imho. The season 1 pass for $30 + B2 is the best route to go imho. It will give you the most bang for the buck.

Last game I would play is Quake4. It's just gore galor shoot em' up fancy.

Well, last game I will talk about is Defiance where it's a pay 1 time then you are done scenario MMO. As for the overall game content, Defiance is decent enough. The game has worn thin for me and it's just a grind fest to skill level 8k. Took me around 169hrs to get to like 2.2k skill level, with content being rinse/repeat.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a pretty fun game, and the community has been totally revitalized due to the introduction of skins.

When they made it so you had to spend like 80 hours grinding to get 1 weapon or you could spend a little cash to get the weapon. Most people do the latter.. I don't know if skill should be rewarded or the money you fork over should be rewarded.. I think cash shops should be only cosmetics and sort like that..
