My ONLY 2 Complaints About Dishonored

Post » Sun Oct 21, 2012 7:43 am

I love this game to bits. I've spent hours doing a single mission just because I want to explore and use the heart on people...

But there are a couple of problems with this masterpiece!

Blink Aiming! - ARRRGGHHH! Talk about fiddly. The number of times I have lost my stealthy intrusion due to the fact that the damned blink is refusing to show me the up arrow at my target that I just KNOW should let me up is beyond frustrating. Sometimes it appears and disappears so quickly that I know it is there but just can't get the damned thing to let me up... especially when I have a corpse over my shoulder. Other times it shows up and I blink only to find myself falling to my doom for some peculiar reason. Yet other times the arrows appear so far away from the top of the target that you wonder if it is truly the right location.

Lack of In-Game Stats - Why is it you only get your stats (how many kills, paintings, coins etc) at the end when you are leaving a damned mission. Most games that have stats like these let you view them in the actual level. To finish a level only to figure out you missed ONE painting is soooooo frustrating to a completionist gamer. Having to save just before you get on the boat with Samuel and then have to load up the next level before you can even load up the previous level save to go looking for the missing bits is irritating to say the least. Pleeeeease fix this.

Other than those two niggles I think that this is the game I have been waiting for.... waiting YEARS for. I hate games that have invisible walls that stop you doing a perfect flanking manoeuvre or let you choose your own path or solution. This game is a breath of fresh air (or more to the point, stinky, whale and fish smelling air).

So Arkane, awesome job guys. Now do some DLC missions... PLEASE! (maybe do one where you have to find out if the plague is actually a foreign power attack like the hints ingame... or is that coming anyway).

Some of the stats are revealed in-level, like the runes and bone charms. I guess counting everything else would have been nice, for those inclined to hoard and collect-'em-all.

Seconded!

Are you on console?

Anyways, I have no problem with mastering the aiming of the supernatural power Blink on PC. I think it works as it should.
And lack of stats focus is awesome, good they move away from the stats focus. There is enough stats focus with the bone charms, runes.

Just enjoy the game! :D

The problem with Blink aiming is that it's ALWAYS set to the "floor" despite where your blue bally-thingy is pointing. Because it's FP and FOV does not always encompass the disc on the floor 30m down, you can easily wind up blinking over nowhere, falling, and dying, instead of to that second post 10m away. That is, until you get used to it and realize that, hey, you're going slow and steady anyway, thinking about your moves carefully, so just take a breath and exhaust your options before deciding where to go. Once you do that and get the aiming idiosyncrasies straight, you should be fine. Just give it a little practice and patience. If you can't see the floor disc, don't blink, simple as that.

My only real complaint is that guards don't notice when I open doors right in front of them.

Seriously how has this not bothered anyone else yet?

Blink has messed me up a couple times. Aim for the top of a wall or at a roof and instead Corvo flies over it and fall to his death even though the cursor was on the target. My biggest complaints are with the AI, and choke-out mechanic. I will watch a target or targets and learn their routine. All is great until I get behind them and then the target will spin around and see me. They didn't spot me as no "lightning bolts" appeared above their head, they just spin around. Sometimes I'm not trying to take them out, just get past them. Frequently when I try to choke someone out, instead of choking them out Corvo will pull out his blade or block if the blade is out. For some reason this alerts the target. The icon for choke-out is shown, but no choke-out. Does anyone else have a problem with Corvo moving forward even if you aren't pushing the stick?

I agree with doors and guards comment. The door hinges must be well oiled.

I hope they make is so if you're going for the Clean Hands achievement, the moment you get a kill something pops on on screen saying, 'Clean Hands have been made dirty!' or something! xD

Really, why do we have to wait 'till the very end of a potentially looooong level to find out we had 1 kill and have to go all the way back and repeat.

The one reason why I hate the missing stats is the Flooded District mission. That is one HUGE damned mission and I thought I had ghosted it and the only person I alerted was Daud yet I didn't get the ghost tick. Annoyed the hell out of me considering it is a multi hour mission. Oh well, back to the beginning of it I expect.

Yes I'm on console... Oh and why is it good they move away from the stats focus. You log everything else in your journal. Why not get the other bits and bobs too. If you kill someone by accident in the flooded district it is bloody annoying (and yes, it is easy if you try to stash the bodies out of the way. I killed one by just dropping him on the floor in front of me somehow). The game is awesome but the sheer length of the missions without being able to check means it ends up getting annoying at times.

Just did a second playthrough and stumbled across another route that had my jaw dropping. The way the game changes even when you are still on low chaos is incredible. I even love how the way the characters behave to each other. I was talking to Piero the one time and Cecilia came into the room behind him. As she passed she gave Piero a look that said "I wouldn't touch you with a barge pole you slimeball" I wonder if he offered her some special items too lol.

Anyway, even though that flooded level mission length is annoyingly long without any feedback as to whether you ghosted through or not I'm still enjoying it.

One question though... is ghost only meaning that you hide from enemies but what about friends too? Do you have to hide from EVERONE to get the ghost achievement?

You don't have to hide from friends, weepers, the towers, rats, or krusts.

Pretty sure Weepers and towers screw up Ghost. G-Staff indicated that iirc.

After reading more articles, weepers do count toward being detected, but watchtowers do not. To much contradiction out there. Simple rule - If a lightning bolt appears above the "target" then it will count toward detection.

You can have everything up to level 3 lightning bolts and still get ghost (I know because that is what happened on my ghost run).

Oh and does everyone get the guards going "HUH?" a lot, even when they can't actually see or hear you? Used to make me think I had screwed up my ghost run and had me loading up past saves because of it. Then I gave up and just went through, even getting level 2 lightning bolts over some heads... Never any reds though. Oh and the Weepers were WAY too sensitive to sound.

Don't know why they do this! There seem to be some areas where they do this every 4-5 seconds.
