So only MMO will make UI for PC now?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 4:03 pm

Such a shame that this beautiful game with deep lore is ruined by this terrible UI. I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to see if I got a disease. The only thing I can figure out is that I can find some list of stats that says how many times I've done things (like who cares about all these counts?) and I see 'diseases contracted 1' - uh, okay.. so what disease? what does it do to me? etc. etc. This is just one example. The stupid skill tree where you warp around in 3d to different stars...what is this for? To keep ADD xbox fans entertained?

Inventory is a pain in the rear too - what happend to RPG having a nice paper doll you can drag gear around? Oh yeah, you can't drag things with an x-box controller :/

I click things with mouse and 90% the pointer isn't really pointing where I'm trying to click.

After Rage, Dead Island, and now this, I guess I'll stop buying games for PC - just MMO's now cause at least they develop with PC in mind.

Too bad, Bethesda - I was a fan from your ES Arena days - but this is just awful.

Well, sorry to vent. I suppose this thread is redundant or something, but at least I feel better voicing my disappointment.

Sounds like you bought 3 games in the last month and are calling Xbox players ADD.

Nah, I didn't buy Rage - saw on a friend's PC and said, "no thanks."

I did play through Dead Island though... kinda wish I could get those hours of my life back, too. Still playing Skyrim - I mean I spent 60 bucks on faith in Bethesda, so I'm gonna at least try to get my money's worth.

I still play pc games but now I know why I hate pc elites you reassured me to how bad you guys really are, can anything please you. It just seems like half the pc elites are complaing not much from regular pc gamers.

Let's not get personal. He has a point. I don't know about ADD. gamesas simply did not spend the effort because they think PC users do not warrant the extra time/effort it would take to get a decent UI.

Sorry if it sounds offensive, but really - there's only one reason for design choices like that: Bethesda is trying to appeal to a certain group of players who need flashy, swooshy animations when moving through menus - Those of us who grew up on PC RPGs aren't their target market anymore, and it it feels like a bit of a betrayal. We are the loyal fans who bought arena and daggerfall and kept their company growing. Now we've been tossed to the side so that the hordes of console gamers can be milked for their cash. I think Bethesda is a good company, and I like this game, even with the horrible UI - but I would just wish that they could have invested a bit to retool the UI for PC gamers. I think our sales #s, small as they may be compared to consoles, warrant at least a revamped UI.

I actually agree with you, but not for the ' Because we were there from the start/We are the reason you're able to make games now" comment. I agree because it's wholly unfair for a large part of their consumer base to be handed a crappy UI. From what I hear it's perfect on the 360, which obviously means it wouldn't be for a PC. They should have realised this yonks ago, and implemented a different UI, or at least tweaked it so it was more usable on a PC.

What I didn't agree on was the ADD comment, as it's just taking a small percentage of the console users and then labeling everyone who plays them. But yes, I hope you get a fix soon, either from Beth or a community modder.

I agree, why couldn't they at least keep the buff/debuff icons showing up in the corner or something (because there is SO MUCH EMPTY SPACE NOW) so you can at least tell if you are diseased.

It is actually staggering how entitled many PC users are now adays. :sadvaultboy:

I used to be a hardcoe PC gamer years ago but how moved over to consoles a bit more recently as the community actually complains much less and seems to enjoy themselves much more.

Especially considering the UI will likely be fixed within a few days whole lingering issues on consoles need to wait for official patches.

Look, man - it's great for you that you've lowered your expectations and are at peace with the universe. Personally, I expect games to improve as time goes on. Like it or not, the UI is part of the game. This game has a UI that is leaps and bounds harder to work with than most RPGs released for the PC in the 90's. Should Bethesda be proud of that?

I guess you could call me a hardcoe PC gamer, since I rarely play my consoles now. I don't even have any of the current ones. But you say we're entitled? I can only speak for myself, but the UI is really the only complaint I have right now. I won't have the game till later today, but from what I've seen, everything else is either ok, or not important enough for me to worry about.

Graphics? They look ok from what I've seen. And I don't care about Direct X 11, or any of that super modern stuff (I can't use it anyway. Windows XP here.)

Music? Sounds ok from what I've heard.

Gameplay? Overall, it looks ok.

The only thing that bothers me is the UI. Complaining about one single feature that could have (and should have) been better from the start is hardly what I'd consider "entitled".

I'm really sick of hearing how PC gamers feel so "entitled." The only reason you're enjoying this game on the console is because Bethesda grew on the money PC gamers have been giving them for many years before. The PC is a totally different platform than a console, and it doesn't take all that much effort to make a PC friendly interface, alongside a slick console interface. Its all about Bethesda expecting the PC crowd to just deal, and allow the mod crowd to create a PC friendly interface, as is what happened with Oblivion.

Honestly, I feel like its the console gamers who are privileged and entitled. They get the focus of the attention of the gaming companies, while the PC gamers usually get the shaft. It's sad, but I guess if that's what makes business sense for the company then whatever.

That being said, I can't wait to crack open this game, interface be damned. Must. Leave. Work.......

RTS games are much better on PCs. Way too much micromanagement for a simple controller.

Still got Blizzard... Diablo 3 makes full use of the mouse, along with a PC oriented UI.

No [censored] console port there... Unlike this half assed crap.

I got a funny feeling that Elder Scrolls will be heading to iOS/Android soon, considering how fast mobile phones/tablets are selling these days.

If PCs are dying, consoles are next.

Can't wait for touch-screen controls!

This is my last Beth game.Oblivion was dumbed down from morrowind, and they could not even make a decent ui that works in skyrim? I'm not even asking for a new ui,just let us have mouse accel and v sync off without having V sensitivity go crazy. Also make the [censored] mouse pointer actually target where you are pointing in menus.

Yeah, and like the title implies, I still have MMOs. Bioware is doing a good job so far on SWTOR.

To keep ADD xbox fans entertained?

7. Flaming is not allowed.

Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult or demean another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD. Attacking Xbox players, PS3 players or PC players is not allowed and calling them "console kiddies" or in anyway indicating someone is in some way a lesser person because of their choice is considered a flame here.
