You can save manually as many times as you want, your 3 autosave slots will be overwritten with each autosave though.

You must of accidently overwritten your previous game save. I have the PS3 version and I currently have 2 different playthroughs on the go.

Did you never save your first character manually?

I have hundreds of save files, you're allowed more than one.

Make sure you save it manually though, the autosave files get overwritten.

I don't really understand why auto-saves and quick saves don't just create a new file every time - on modern systems, there's usually plenty of storage. However, I guess 3 auto-saves is still better than 1 auto-save.

I mean, if you start to get too many files, you can always delete a bunch.

This, unfortunately. Sorry to hear about your game being overwritten.

When I made a new character, the first autosave (after jumping off the wagon) over-wrote my first character. Luckily I had heard about this and backed my save on a usb drive. Other than the first autosave upon making a new character however, it seems that the autosaves will only overwrite other autosaves. I'm not positive as of yet, and I would recommend just backing saves up whenever you change characters.

Basically, I think that first autosave (before you even create your character) is not considered an autosave by the system (ps3 only?) and therefore can overwrite other manual saves.

The game didn't [censored] you over at all, it's a rule of thumb with RPG's to manually save often. The game doesn't have a built in feature for multiple characters, but you can do manually - therefore the game can't differentiate between autosaves for your characters. You should NEVER depend solely on autosave for an RPG.

The save system Bethesda uses for this game as well as previous games such as Fallout and Oblivion is lacking in my opinion. Really wish they could implement a way to group saves under different characters rather than jumble them all together. At least provide the option to label our saves, anything would be better than the current system.
